Sir,

I had always imagined that Tenby's town councillors lived in and around the town, but I begin to wonder whether some are visiting from Mars. In suggesting a crackdown on street traders around the Five Arches, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans says in a recent edition: "The main issue here is that these traders are spoiling the historic beauty of Tenby's Five Arches, so we need to put a stop to that."

What is it that these traders deal in? Crack cocaine? Assault weapons? Last time I looked, they were plaiting little girls' hair and face painting. Historic towns and cities throughout the land encourage trading near their city walls because they know it attracts tourists. But Tenby's councillors feel that it somehow sullies the historic bricks.

Is this another step towards 'No fun' Tenby? No cinema (another story), punitive parking restrictions (not the town council's fault, I know), and now an attempt to remove some welcome local colour from the arches. Give me strength.
