Despite hopes raised by the local police chief that Narberth was likely to get a community support officer based in the town, it now appears that this will not be the case. Although Dyfed Powys Police have been successful in obtaining funding for the officers, the nine appointed will be based in other Pembrokeshire towns. Speaking at a recent meeting of the town council, Mayor-elect, Clr. David Norcross informed members that after attending a police liaison committee meeting he had been informed that five CSOs would be appointed to Haverfordwest and four in Pembroke Dock. As reported by the Observer previously, at the council's November meeting, Inspector Les Clark told the town council that Dyfed Powys Police had submitted a bid to the Home Office to employ more community support officers. If permission was granted, Insp. Clark said he hoped to obtain the services of one such officer for Narberth.
