Alys Carlisle certainly found the treasure at one of South Pembrokeshire’s new attractions when she got to take home her very own diamond ring after boyfriend Patrick Anderson proposed at Heatherton World of Activities’ new Escape Room.

“I’d been racking my brain as to how to propose and then had the idea to do it as part of an Escape Room as we’d done a few of these previously and enjoyed them very much,” said Patrick.

“I thought that she could find the ring in the Escape Room and that this would be perfect!”

So Patrick booked the Escape Room at Heatherton World of Activities and contacted the park to see if would be possible.

Patrick explained: “My two concerns were that she wouldn’t find the ring or we’d run out of time before she found it. Without giving too much away about the game itself, the park told me that the aim of the game was to find a treasure chest so the ring could be placed in there.

“They also said that if we ran out of time, they’d allow us to finish the game. With both these potential issues covered, I found myself with no excuses not to do it!”

Patrick continued: “We drove over from Swansea with me trying to remain calm and not appearing nervous and we arrived in plenty of time for me to discreetly hand the ring over for it to be placed in the room.

“We started the room and we worked our way through the puzzles with me doing my upmost to focus on the game so much so that a couple of times I forgot that I was going to propose! We eventually found the chest and Alys opened it and saw the treasure and exclaimed that we’d done it! I couldn’t see the ring so after a brief panic I said that she needed to look under the treasure and there was the ring. All my pre-planned romantic phrases went out the window, but I just about managed to coherently propose and happily she said yes.

“Once we left, all the staff congratulated us as they’d been watching on CCTV, I’m not sure who was more nervous, me or them!”

Heatherton’s World of Activities marketing manager Simon Hilling said: “We would like to congratulate the lucky couple and thank Patrick for choosing our brand new Escape Room to propose to the lovely Alys. Patrick certainly escaped with the treasure this time.”

Alys and Patrick have been together five years and are actually an internet dating story success as they met on the free site Plenty of Fish.

“The proposal was such a surprise,” said Alys. “How could I say no to the love of my life!”

Alys added: “Afterwards, Patrick said we were going to a B&B, but we ended up the the best suite at The Grove. What an amazing country hotel. It was an absolutely perfect weekend. We don’t get much time to ourselves as between us we have five children. So our West Wales weekend was the perfect proposal and engagement weekend. We can’t wait to visit again.”
