Sir, Through the columns of the Observer, I would like to put out an appeal for all the former members of the now defunct Narberth branch of the National Malayo and Borneo Veterans Association. Gentlemen and ladies who were members, will you please contact me with a view to rejoining the NMBVA. We meet every third Tuesday at the RAF Gremlins Club, Carmarthen, in Guildhall Square. The NMBVA is open to all service personnel who served in the Malaya emergency and the Borneo confrontation; this action ended in May of 1966. These two actions were fought against the communist insurgents who were trying to invade South East Asia. Well over a 1,000 Commonwealth troops lost their lives. This conflict has become a 'forgotten war', but not to those who were there. Membership is also open to members from the UK who served with the Malayan Police Force; Also, Australian, New Zealanders and Ghurkha troops. Troops who served in Malaysia and Borneo between August 31, 1957, and May of 1966, are entitled to the Pingat Jasa Malaysia medal. This is a medal that the King and Malaysian government have awarded to personnel for that period of service.

Terence Warner, Hon. secretary, Carmarthen branch, Tel. (01834) 814148.
