Nine prospective candidates will put forward their cases this week on why they should represent Tenby on the town council.
An ‘open evening’ looking to encourage new members to join the council was held recently, with the resort’s Mayor and current members hosting the event to explain to prospective candidates what it means to be a local councillor in an attempt to encourage more people to consider standing.
The town council are looking to fill three vacancies - two in the South ward and one in the North, after three more members recently handed in their resignations.
The town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members at their meeting on Tuesday night, that nine people had put forward applications for the positions.
Clr. Lawrence Blackhall said that he felt that it had been a really good idea to hold the meeting to encourage candidates to come forward, with a significant amount showing interest.
He suggested that as such a range of people had applied, it would be only fair to offer them an opportunity to individually make a presentation to the council, and make a decision based on that.
The majority of councillors voted in favour of this process, and candidates will be invited to meet with the town council next Tuesday, at 6 pm.
