Recently, Narberth Christian Community Church fulfilled the desires of two deceased men with the assistance of soccer legend Cyrille Regis.

Ex-British Lion and England rugby player Maurice Colclough and well-known local farmer, Richard John, of Templeton, both passed away three years ago.

Neil Bartholomew, local ex-footballer and businessman, had been instructed independently by the two men to hold an event in the Plas Hyfryd, Narberth, that would be an expression of their Christian faith and for people to enjoy.

Cyrille, a committed Christian, who Neil knows as a good friend through his scouting work in football, offered to give up his time freely to come and talk about his life and Christian faith.

Cyrille is now working as an agent in football and expressed how the sudden death of his friend, footballer Laurie Cunningham, made him reassess his life and values.

A short DVD of his goal-scoring career with England, West Bromwich, Aston Villa and Wolves amongst others, highlighted the quality of his playing ability.

Neil joked if he had stuck at it, he could have made the Pembrokeshire league!

The evening, enhanced with the Motown and soul music by Carl McGregor was enjoyed by over 125 people and raised £950 for the Cancer Ward, Withybush, in the process.

It is hoped with the success to hold future events also at the Plas Hyfryd.
