A Pembrokeshire town council is seeking new councillors as half its posts are currently vacant.

Neyland Town council is seeking to co-opt five members for its East Ward and one for its West Ward to fill vacancies.

At full strength, Neyland Town Council would have 12 members; eight for east and four for west.

Anyone wishing to join the council should contact the clerk by email at [email protected].

The deadline is September 21, interested parties have to meet certain criteria including a work or residence connection to the town or immediate surrounding area.

The council, in a social media post, has outlined some of the potential councillors’ roles.

“Representing the Community: Councillors act as representatives of their community, ensuring local concerns and interests are heard and addressed.

“Supporting local events and Groups: Councillors can provide support to local events and community groups, helping to create a vibrant and active community. This includes physical and financial support to all walks of diverse groups within our community.

“Promoting Community Engagement: Councillors hold monthly public meetings. This aims to foster a sense of involvement in local governance and an understanding of decisions made about your local community.

“Ensuring Transparency and Accountability: Councillors are responsible for ensuring that the Council operates transparently, adhering to good governance principles and ethical standards.

“Improving Local Services: By working closely with the County Council, Councillors can advocate for the delivery of essential services that enhance the quality of life for residents.

“Building Partnerships: Councillors work with organisations and bodies to deliver services and support, fostering collaboration and cooperation within the community.”
