Brunel Quay, Neyland was the venue for an outdoor concert by the small town’s Ladies Choir which followed the lighting of the beacon on Friday evening.

An appreciative audience (judging by the applause and participation) were treated to a delightful programme of songs widely differing in style, including an Anglo-African version of ‘We Are Marching in the Light of God’, Bill Withers’ Lean on Me, the Welsh Hymn Rachie (for which they enlisted the help of a bass-singing male friend), Mamas & Papas hit California Dreamin’ and the Vera Lynn classic ‘White Cliffs of Dover’.

The ladies’ evening serenade was harmonious in every sense of the word, and there were hints of that ‘hush to swell’ dynamic range that makes their more famous counterpart, the Welsh Male Voice Choir, so famous.
