On March 6, the school was honoured to welcome GB number one Judo athlete, Tom Reed; he came on behalf of Sky Sports: Living for Sport.

The day started off with Year 7 and 8 assemblies, speaking to them about how he came to join Judo and his experiences in the world of sport.

He showed the pupils a video of some of his tournaments and the medals he had won from worldwide tournaments; he also told the pupils that you need to be determined and work hard to achieve everything, not just in sport, but in school work.

Tom then joined the School Sports and Nutrition Team, which included the School Sports Young Ambassadors, Eve Kidney, Hayden Gove, Molly Lewis and Scarlett Rushby-Smith.

This he did to help three teams plan for upcoming sporting events like Sports Relief. The teams did a fantastic job and the upcoming events planned are expected to be a huge success.

For the last hour of Tom's visit, he taught the Sports and Nutrition team how to do basic Judo, which was a very good experience.

He had them pair off and explained certain moves and techniques which were great fun and as the time flew by he finished off by having them do a few Judo flips on their partners.

The whole day was a great inspiration and all benefited greatly from the whole experience.

Grease review by Josh Veale

It's obvious that everyone has loved the Greenhill production of Grease, the cast have had nothing but praise, every night has been sold out and some people even went for all three nights, and I can obviously see why.

As I walked into the dressing room an hour before the cast were due to go on during a cold Wednesday night, you could feel the chemistry in the air, anticipation was in the room, especially aided by a motivational group talk by Mr. Sheward, responsible for putting the show together. Exuberance was clearly shown for what was to occur, although not stopping the tension felt five minutes before the show was to begin!

I quickly got to the front row, just in time to hear the voice of Mr. Sheward alerting people of the fire exits before the show, then before you could even think, the cast was on stage, singing, yelling even, that Grease was indeed the word and from that moment onwards the show belonged to them.

The acting was superb; you could hear audible gasps as Danny (portrayed by Nick Allen) came on stage holding a sandwich bag, laughs as Doody (portrayed by Harry Whitehurst) continuously made jokes at his own expense and applause after every solo, some of which were performed by the talented individuals Sophie Davies and Bobbie Preston.

Halfway through, an interval occurred, enabling me to go and congratulate the cast for their superb efforts in act one, and strangely enough for me, they seemed almost surprised by my praise, as if somehow they didn't see the amazing achievements that had just occurred, but they definitely deserved it!

During the break, two girls began to sing a tune to me, joined by another, and another, and another, until the entire cast were all shouting at the top of their voices, clearly showing what Grease has been all about, connecting together a group for a long period of time. By all the rehearsing and going through lines, these teenagers have gone from just having aspirations to being able to fulfil their dreams, and do it in a small community of very talented individuals, all of whom should be equally proud of themselves.

Act Two ensured that the entertainment didn't die down, with cameos from many of the teachers that wooed girls and repulsed boys, well-choreographed scenes and hilarity from Niall Quinn, a lad well acquainted with acting on stage, being in such dazzling productions as 'Scrooged'.

But I must give it to the Grease cast, never have I seen so much hard effort put into something so brilliant; truly a night to remember.

If you haven't seen the production yet, then DVDs will soon be available, including cast interviews, directed by me (Josh Veale) - well worth watching. So on note show I end? With a Shoo-wop sha whada whadda Yippidy boom da boom of course.

Rugby 7s

Greenhill School Year 8 Rugby 7s squad competed in the Berkhamsted 7s competition on Sunday, near Hemel Hempstead.

The boys played some very good rugby, showing skill and determination to win their three group games and qualify for the main knockout competition.

Greenhill lost to a very strong Wimbledon College side in the last 16.

This was the first time Greenhill have entered this competition and to be one of two Welsh teams in the last 16 was a great achievement.

Star performers were Trystan Thomas and Harry Rossiter.

They now look forward to the Urdd National 7s on March 19.

Dyfed secondary schools success

at cross country championships

In absolutely atrocious weather conditions in Brecon on Saturday, February 1, Dyfed again won the overall team title at the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships.

Three Greenhill pupils were part of this team.

Anna Garvey, Year 10, finished 15th in the Middle Girls competition; she can still compete in this category next year.

Dominic Van der Pas, Sixth Form finished 33rd in the Senior Boys race.

The top performer from Greenhill was Finn Bowie, who finished eighth in the Junior Boys race and will now represent Welsh Schools in the SIAB schools international cross country match in Bolton on Saturday, March 22.

Congratulations to all three, and especially good luck to Finn running in his Welsh vest.
