One of Shakespeare's most famous and most performed plays, King Lear, is enjoying a youthful perspective this October - as students of Greenhill School prepare for a show stopping performance of this classic play for the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

Directed by Greenhill school teachers, Catherine Cumine, Tim Bercury and Sian Rees, this possibly unique take on King Lear is set in New York during the 1950s, featuring Lear as a ruthless mob boss.

Don Lear is usurped by his two eldest daughters Goneril and Regan, whilst the youngest, Cordelia, tries to reinstate him to the head of the family.

Cue bloodshed and drama as the eldest daughters fight between themselves, Lear goes insane and his old friend Gloucester is tortured and deposed through his own son's machinations.

This powerful script - kept in the original language, but shortened to a manageable half hour - is further improved by the costume and ambience of the 1950s setting and the stellar performances of the cast.

This joint performance with Portfield School's Macbeth may only be a one night show, but it is looking to be a night of talented acting and memorable scenes.

The Merlin Theatre in Pembrokeshire College will be transported back to all the treachery and turmoil of the New York underworld on October 19.

Tickets are limited and sure to be going fast, so if you don't want to be left out in the cold visit http://www.eventelephant">www.eventelephant. com/ssfpembrokeshire to buy a ticket for what is assuredly a show worth seeing.

This performance is made possible by the generous sponsorship from the Soroptimists, South Hook Terminal, Silcox and Friends of Greenhill, also the support and encouragement from family and friends.

SPORTS FIXTURES

New students to Greenhill School always find the first few weeks confusing and the arrangements for sports are just one of the many items they have to remember.

Any student involved in a sporting activity in Greenhill School is informed with at least 48 hours notice (where possible) and the team sheets are put on the noticeboard and announcements made on the school tannoy system, with fixture date, time, venue and expected return time.

The step up from junior school puts the responsibility on the individual student to be aware of and prepared for any of their extra-curricular activities. Parents should be aware that their child should provide the information necessary, but information is always obtainable from the reception.

FRIENDS OF GREENHILL

Now is the time to sign-up for the annual Greenhill lottery. Forms have gone home with students, but are still available from reception. For just £12 a year, you have the chance to win £50 (£100 for December). The draws take place every month from October through to July. So sign up soon, you have to be in to win it. Good luck!
