Football (Girls)

Selected students of Years 7 and 8 played away at Swansea in a six-a-side football tournament. The opponents varied in abilities and strengths. Out of all the matches, the semi-final was the most challenging and physical match of all, but with Holly Furlong hitting the back of the net on a number of occasions, it was enough to bring the girls to the final and win. They are now going to Bristol today (Friday) - good luck!

Squad: Cassie Paxton, Hannah Taylor, Nicole Bevans, Holly Furlong, Jess Webb, Becky Gwyther, Kirsty Lewis.

Under 14s

Greenhill 9 Morriston 1: On Thursday, January 29, Greenhill Under 14s girls had a convincing win over Morriston to get into the last eight teams in Wales.

At half-time, the score was only 2-0 to Tenby with Morriston battling hard. In the second half and with the wind against them, Tenby got on top and ran out 9-1 winners. It was an all round team effort. Goal scorers were Hannah Lewis (3), Holly Furlong (2), Maisie John (2), Hannah Taylor and one own goal.

Squad: Hannah Lewis (capt.), Kirstie Lewis, Hannah Taylor, Lori Amos, Becky Gwyther, Nicole Bevans, Cassie Paxton, Maisie John, Darcy Escott, Bethan Osborne, Shannon Knowles, Kim Alman, Sam Croft, Jess Webb and Holly Furlong.

Welsh Schools Cup (last 16 Match)

Greenhill Year 7 6 Llanishen High School 0: The Greenhill boys were confident going into the match having previously beaten a fellow last 16 team in the form of Amman Valley comprehensive the week earlier 7-2 in a friendly match.

This confidence proved fully justified as the Greenhill boys started brightly against a much bigger, more physical Llanishen side.

Some neat play down the right by Leon Phillips early on, put through the tenacious Charlie Gammer who slid the ball home for a 1-0 lead.

Llanishen looked to play a physical game, however, the Tenby boys fought hard and maintained the high standard of passing that has served them so well this year.

The skill and creativity was evident with Scott Ferney and Spencer Williams shining in midfield.

The pressure told in the first half, with Gammer grabbing himself another and Spencer firing in a shot with accuracy and power from long range. The persistent Alex Morse nicked a fourth on the stroke of half-time to give the lads a convincing half-time lead.

Llanishen came out fired up in the second half putting in some hefty challenges on the Greenhill boys. This aggression was reciprocated by the Tenby boys who refused to back down, with the combative and classy Dylan Rees at centre half leading by example.

Greenhill's relentless passing and moving game led to a further two goals in the second half. The fifth was scored by a composed Declan Escott, while the sixth was netted home by Gammer who was nominated as man-of-the-match following his performance with a splendid hat-trick.

Well done to the entire squad who now go through to the quarter-finals of the Welsh Schools Cup!

Squad: George Woodhead, Mark Davies, Lloyd Hughes, Dylan Rees, Adam Muskett, Leon Phillips, Scott Ferney, Spencer Williams, Ben Roberts, Alex Moore, Charlie Gammer, James Brace and Declan Escott.

YEAR 7 HOCKEY

Greenhill 1 Pembroke 1: On Wednesday, January 28, the Year 7 hockey team played Pembroke away.

It was a good game with Rachelle Vickery scoring the first goal within the first minute. Greenhill played their hardest attempting to score another goal, but Pembroke had good defenders. The whistle went for half-time and Greenhill were still 1-0 up.

During half-time, Miss Bennett swapped players because there were so many on the bench.

In the second half, Pembroke levelled the match. Although Greenhill came close to scoring another goal, unfortunately it got saved.

Both teams played really well for their first game and the man-of-the-match was Anna Morgan. She saved lots of goals and if she wasn't in goal the score would have probably been 1-4 to Pembroke - so well done!

Team: Rachelle Vickery, Cara Jay Williams, Anna De'vall, Eleanor Catt, Katie Evans, Hannah Taylor, Anna Morgan (goalie), Abi Meyrick, Holly Edwards, Emma June Vaughan, Ella Brace, Ella Brindley, Elise Cox, Ariana Williams, Jasmine Hicks, Katie Rossiter and Gabriella Butler.

Year 7 Cross Country

Rebekah Gwyther and Edward James travelled to Blackweir Fields, Cardiff, to represent Dyfed Schools U13 cross country squad.

After a successful cross-country season representing Greenhill, both were selected to run the Celtic international race. Congratulations to both who did extremely well.
