The Under 13 Girls football team travelled to Swansea to compete in the indoor BT Community Cup. This was their first competitive match and Mollie Goforth captained the side. Their defence was strong and won numerous tackles. D'Arcy Escott demonstrated her flair in midfield and was named players' player. Hannah Lewis was outstanding in obtaining possession and distributing the ball to her fellow players, and therefore was named coaches' player of the match. Although the games were close, unfortunately the team lost out to very established sides. However, everyone enjoyed their first outing and look forward to many more competitive matches. Team: Rhiannon Harley, Mollie Goforth, D'Arcy Escott, Hannah Lewis, Lowri Williams, Bethan Osborne, Maisie John.
WORLDWISE QUIZ
On January 31, a 'Worldwise' geography quiz took place in Swansea University. Eleven teams of Year 10 GCSE students from various schools across South Wales took part, Three teams from Greenhill were among them, with two other students who went along as spectators (Gemma Amos and Jessica Edwards). Team 1 (Ginge, Jems and the other one): Holly Thomas, Jemma Walker and Gabby Rees. Team 2 (The Moomins): Lucy Norris, Becca Andres and Jessie Ryder. Team 3 (Anon): Zoe Griffiths, Rhianne Griffiths and Emily Jenkins.
All 11 teams took part in a preliminary round where they separated the boys from the men! The top four teams, including Greenhill Team 1, then competed in the final, with Team 1 completing four gruelling rounds, but the competition was very good and they finished fourth overall. Good examples of general geography questions that the team encountered were: 'What is the capital city of Vietnam?' and 'What city is famous for having the statue of the little mermaid?' On the whole, they had a really fun evening and an unforgettable educational experience and they hope to compete in the same competition again next year. The teams would like to thank Miss Spratt and Miss Unwin for taking them in the school minibus.
CROSS COUNTRY
Pupils from the school attended Oakwood Park for the Pembrokeshire Schools Cross Country Championships. There was a high turnout of athletes from all the county secondary schools, which made all the races competitive, with excellent performances from all pupils. To add to this success, Holly Thomas, a member of the senior team, picked up best proposing speaker. Mr. Williams, of the Greenhill English department, acknowledged that the competition at this level was very tough, but all of the Greenhill students who took part did a fantastic job. Mr. Williams also thanked the parents for their help in getting the students to Cardigan and the Saundersfoot Rotary Club, particularly Mr. Stewart Treharne, for their encouragement and support.
