Nine Year 10 Greenhill students following the Foundation in Building Craft Occupations Award course within Technology with Mr. Morris are presently putting the finishing touches to a practical plumbing exercise. All the materials for this task have been generously provided and sponsored by Plumb Centre in Tenby. Rhys Beynon is seen here marking out and carrying out the dry- fit to the traditional 15mm copper and brass fittings prior to soldering them together. This course led 11 students from last year to enter the construction trade either directly into local companies or via Pembrokeshire College. The local company, Scaffold 2000, visited the school last Thursday and provided an excellent demonstration of the safe and correct method of erecting a 'kicker and one' independent scaffold tower. The students watched the building of the tower with interest (see picture), and then provided manager Paul Gorman and his two colleagues with a range of well thought out questions. The tower being dismantled and racked followed this. The Year 11 Greenhill students watching the demonstration are completing the FC/BCO course in Carpentry within the technology department, and many of these students progressing in September to places on NVQ construction courses at Pembrokeshire College.
Friends of Greenhill
Some summer fun is planned when the Friends of Greenhill hold a Jazz Evening, on Friday, June 23, at the Cresselly Arms, Cresswell Quay, featuring the Greenhill Jazz Band (and possibly the Big Band). FOG will of course have food of their usual excellent quality available. Forthcoming event: FOG Auction of Promises - July 7 at the Tenby Sailing Club. A major fund-raising event for Greenhill School is taking place and the Friends are seeking your help. Items are need for the auction - any type of donation considered. The lots that sell well are always the ones money can't buy - so let's see what quirky items you can come up with. The Friends' need your donation confirmed back to them ASAP Last year they raised £3,500, with many people giving their time, resources and sponsorship, a tremendous backing - thank you. The Friends would like to make this year even better - your attendance and support on the night would be superb, so please go along.
ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tomorrow (Saturday), the County Sports is being held in Haverfordwest at Sir Thomas Picton School. This event is one of the highlights of the school year, in which, Greenhill has a proud tradition. The school will be taking two coaches of students to compete. All competing students have received a letter with the relevant information. The buses leave school at 8.30 am, picking up the Information Centre, Kilgetty at 8.45 am and returning to school at approximately 5.45 pm. If any students are making their own way to the event, can they please inform the PE staff. Anyone wishing to support the athletes, at what is always a thoroughly enjoyable day for all concerned, the event begins at 10 am. Good luck to all Greenhill competitors.
LOST PROPERTY
The school is now posting items of lost property on a display board - to be situated near the public pay 'phone. This will display 'Post-it' size notes with a short description and date. Items will be held for one full term. School uniform items will then be washed and sold by the Friends of Greenhill for school funds, while other items will be donated to a local charity shop. The lost property mountain at Greenhill is becoming an increasing problem, please put the students full name and surname on all items (i.e. boot bags and sports equipment, music bag etc). That will assist identification and return of property. Named items will continue to be returned to the appropriate pupil. Co-operation in this matter would be most appreciated.
