CHARITY BASKETBALL MATCH

The students of the Sixth Form will be holding a charity basketball match on December 17, at break-time. During the half-time interval, there will be a shoot-out, where students could win up to £50. Five students will be drawn out of the hat as winners of a raffle. Each raffle ticket costs 25p each or £1 a strip of five. Each of the winners will have one shot from the free throw line to get the ball into the basket. If no-one scores in the first round, then each participant will have up to two more shots. The £50 prize money will be shared out if there is a draw between any of the contestants that are successful. If no-one has scored after each person has had the three shots, then the prize money will be donated to a chosen charity. We will also be grateful for any other donations that you can give.

Year 9: Preseli 0 Greenhill 1. Player-of-the-match - Sophie John. Greenhill took control of the match straight away, with Sophie Rees taking the ball down the wing. We had a few chances of goal, but the Preseli defence was tough to break through. Greenhill were then awarded a penalty corner. This was taken by Chantelle Johnson, who passed straight to Sophie John, who smacked the ball through the whole defence and into the back of the goal. Greenhill had many more chances through Sally Marklew and Tara Evans, but the Preseli team were determined not to let another goal in. In the second half, Preseli showed that they weren't going to give up without a fight and had many chances at goal, but Bethan Thomas and Lucia Fecci kept regaining possession for Greenhill. Vicky Brace and Vicky Ward cleared the ball to the forwards, who had many more unsuccessful chances at goal. Emily England, Amy Bailey and Megan Jenkins also worked as good team players. Team: Tara Evans, capt., Sophie John, Sally Marklew, Chantelle Johnson, Sophie Rees, Emily England/Vicky Brace, Lucia Fecci, Vicky Brace/Amy Bailey, Vicky Ward Bethan Thomas, Megan Jenkins. Year 8: Preseli 0 Greenhill 0. This match took place at Greenhill. "Our game this week was better than our last," said captain Sophie Arthur. "Passes were stronger and tackling had improved. This time our player-of-the-match was our centre midfield player, Leonie Evans." The first half saw Greenhill have more possession and almost get the first goal in the bag. Half-time came and Beth Flowers came off, but during the second half she had to come back on as Sophie Thomas got hit in the stomach with the ball. The final whistle came with the scoreboard scoreless. Team: Tasha Kinsey, Rhianne Griffiths, Sam Dunfee, Lucy Morris, Sophie Thomas, Leonie Evans, Zoe Griffiths, Sophie Arthur, Gemma Amos, Beth Flowers, Amie Hollinger, Heather Whittaker.
