GOLF

Wales Under 15s v Surrey Under 15s: Over the weekend, Sam Morgan, of Year 10, played for the Wales Under 15 team at Burhill Golf Club in Surrey. The team consisted of eight boys, four from the north and four from the south of Wales. They travelled up on the Saturday, with the matches taking place on the Sunday. Sam lost one of his matches and managed to win another. Overall Wales won their match 7-4.

DEWAR SHIELD

Pembrokeshire Schools 29 Eryri Schools 14: Pembrokeshire Schools Under 15s travelled to Eryri (North Wales) recently to compete in round one of the Welsh Schools Rugby Union Dewer Shield competition. Despite the four-and-a-half-hour coach journey, Pembrokeshire started well and were soon 5-0 up after some great pressure from a very impressive back row, allowing Guto Griffiths to kick to the corner and win the chase to score. Although the home side dominated the lineout, the Pembs. scrum was very solid, with Phil Brown very impressive and giving his opposite number a torrid time, supported by man-of-the-match, Luke Dedman (Greenhill). With such good ball from the scrum, Pembs. half-backs looked to move the ball at every opportunity, enabling both wings to use their pace to good effect. Rob Colley (Greenhill) collected a try in typical foraging style, David Zangoras two tries, one a spectacular effort from 90 metres! And fullback Griffiths rounded off the scoring. Coach Andrew Morgan was pleased with the effort of his team, but was quick to warn his squad that much sterner tests awaited in coming weeks. "While David Zangoras and Luke Dedman showed real power and pace, the way Jack McNaughton and Mathew Kiff ran the ball was very encouraging, and a special mention must be made for Steve Inward who played despite being a year young." The next game is against Pontypool Schools tomorrow (Saturday) at Haverfordwest RFC. Kick-off is at 11 am.

Year 7 Rugby

Greenhill v St. Davids: An excellent away result saw Greenhill win 17-5. Captain, Rob Fairley was man-of-the-match, as well as one of the scorers. The other scorers were Aaron Roberts and Philip Horsley. There was a conversion by Curtis Hurlow. All were prominent players, along with Ryan O'Neill. The whole squad made a first-rate start to Year 7's season. Squad: Cai Evans, Murray Phillips, Ryan O'Neill, Ashley Bonser, Michael Wright, Aled Smith, Ieuan Williams, James John, Leo Morland, Nathan Clarke, Aaron Roberts, Dean North, Rob Fairley (capt), Carwyn Lawrence, Joel Reed, Loui Fecci, Sam Baker, Curtis Hurlow, Patrick Elliot, Ross Edwards, Alex Heesom, Rob Parker, Ceri Brace, Chris Milward, Ethan Jones, Philip Horsley, Ashley Andrews, Connor Keohane.

Year 10 rugby

Henry Boot captained his team to a 67-0 victory over St. David's. Henry Boot and Jamie Nicholas each scored two tries, while Luke Dedman scored two tries and kicked one conversion. Danny Williams, Simon Stanford, Ben Griffiths and Shaun Jones each had one try and Scott Helmich had one try and a conversion, with Josh Bevan converting four of the tries. This was a game where the most difficult thing to do was choose man-of-the-match with so many outstanding players. Ben Griffiths, however, took the accolade with his ability to put the correct lines of running, quality communication and superb decision-making. The St. Davids side were not on this occasion the county's strongest opposition, but the brand of rugby with the teamwork made this an enjoyable match. Squad: Luke Dedman, Henry Boot, Jonathan Pike, Rhys Davies, Andrew Stretton, Scott Helmich, Danny Willimas, Simon Stanford, Ben Griffiths, Sam Baker, Jamie Robins, Sam Large, Josh Bevan, Jamie Nicholas, Shaun Jones, Richard Jones

HOCKEY

Last Wednesday, Greenhill's Year 8 team played Tasker Milward at home. "The coach, team and myself all voted for Sophie Thomas to be our player-of-the-match," said captain, Sophie Arthur. "It was a terrific match. Both teams had equal amounts of attacking and defending to do and both kept fighting for a goal until the very end. "Unfortunately, Greenhill didn't score, but fortunately Taskers didn't get a goal either, so it ended up as a goal-less draw. "All the team played well, but we all felt sorry for Heather, in goal, as the defence were so good that she never got to touch the ball." Squad: Lucy Morris, Rhianne Griffiths and Sam Dunfee (forwards), Sophie Thomas, Leonie Evans, Tasha Kinsey and Zoe Griffiths (midfield), Sophie Arthur, Gemma Amos, Beth Allen, Laura Elliot (defence), Heather Whittaker (goalkeeper).

YEAR 9 NETBALL

Greenhill 1 Tasker Milward 1: Greenhill's goal was scored by Tara Evans and it came at the start of the game, which saw a few goals disallowed for both teams. Greenhill were very worried because Takers beat them last year. Taskers are a very strong team, but Greenhill played very well. Charlotte Johnson played well at midfield, keeping the ball away from the goal. She was aided by Sophie John with some good skill work. Sally-Ann Marklew was awarded the player-of-the-match with some good tackles. Squad: Jodie Fecci, Robyn Cooke, Tara Evans, Sally-Ann Marklew, Sophie Rees, Sophie John, Chantelle Johnson, Emily England, Amy Bailey, Lucia Fecci, Victoria Ward, Dana Rogers and Vicky Brace.
