Congratulations to four Year 8 students from Greenhill School who have successfully completed their Adventure Service Challenge, Senior Stage 1 Certificate.

Pictured here with Eirian Evans, principal youth officer, Tammy Dibble, school based youth worker, Anthony Harris, community youth worker and Phillipa Johns, school based youth worker, are Annie Osborne, Emma James, Courtney Harris and Kelly Wilson, who have been working their way through the programme since last September.

The students have covered the following modules: cookery, campcraft, first aid, interests, service, rambling and roadcraft.

The scheme, which mirrors a younger version of the Duke of Edinburgh awards, was delivered by Anthony and Tammy at Tenby Youth Centre as part of an organised after-school provision. Both Anthony and Tammy would like to thank Mike Smith and David Walker for their support and in particular the students for their continuous hard work, dedication and commitment. Well done!

T. P. Hughes gift to Greenhill tourers

Mr. Chris Hughes, managing director of T. P. Hughes, presented the rugby team with polo shirts, especially embroidered for their Canadian tour by Tees 'R Us.

An exciting time lies ahead for the boys of Greenhill School's senior rugby team who will soon be embarking on a two-week tour to Abbotsford, near Vancouver in Canada.

While this is the first time to Canada for this set of boys, the link with Canadian schools rugby has been established for some time, with the school first having toured there three years ago.

"We've also been hosting Canadian tours for the last six years and two of the teams we'll be playing have toured here in that time," said Mr. Alun Bartlett, PE teacher at Greenhill.

During the hectic two-week schedule, the boys will not only be playing four matches, but will also be taking in the full Canadian experience, including white water rafting and whale spotting.

"While the tour has been largely funded by the pupils themselves, it would not have been possible without the generous help of fund-raisers and sponsors," continued Mr. Bartlett.

"In particular, we would like to thank John Handicott, Anne Clark and Meryl Ball for their fund-raising efforts and special thanks to our sponsors, Mr. Tunstall, Mr. and Mrs. Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins and Jason Rossiter."

Year 10 Work Experience

"Many students enjoyed and gained much from their work experience last week, which was gratifying considering the difficulties trying to find placements," Ms P. A. Bailey, work experience co-ordinator, said this week. "This was the worst year I can remember for placing students. Firstly, I wish to apologise to employers, parents, students and my colleagues on the staff for the short notice and desperate last minute attempts to get students out to a work placement. We had information that students were not turning up for work. This was because they had received no notification of the placement and had already arranged one for themselves at the last minute. The whole business was an absolute muddle and things must change before next year.

"Secondly, I'd like to thank employers, parents, relations, friends and students for the magnificent way everyone did their utmost to ensure the vast majority of students did have a work placement. Thanks, too, go to my colleagues who did their best to monitor students in the most trying of circumstances."

Quote of the week: "Miss, I had an amazing work experience." Phew !

As part of a Design Technology Project, Jimmy Boswell, of Year 8, constructed a quality ferret box, complete with hunting dogs etched on the sides as a finishing touch. Jimmy built the box for his ferret, Snowy, to accompany him on his ferreting trips. Many thanks go to Travis Perkins, of Begelly, for supplying the wood and fittings.
