Pressure is mounting with only one week until the long-awaited performance of Jesus Christ Superstar (write media students Emma Griffiths and Abi Marriott). The cast, directors and helpers have been frantically getting everything ready for the performances which will take place on February 24, 25, 26 and 27, at 7.30 pm in the Main School Hall.
The world famous musical has caught the imagination of the very talented cast who are all showing great dedication and commitment at rehearsals.
Matthew Birch aka Jesus, took time off briefly from rehearsals last week to tell us: "Rehearsals are going really well and the songs are sounding very impressive."
Between the hectic schedules, the directors have decided to put on a day performance for primary schools.
Tickets are currently on sale at Dales Music Shop or from the School Reception, priced £8 (for tiered seating) and £5 - but hurry, they are selling fast!
Important announcement: Would everyone please note, the seating arrangements for this production will be different to normal. All tickets purchased are marked with a letter to denote the row and a seat number. Therefore, a seat bearing the number in the allotted row will be for the ticket bearer only. Also each night is represented by a different colour ticket, i.e. Tuesday - blue, Wednesday - mauve, Thursday - pink and Friday - yellow.
Quick-thinking Student
The quick-thinking of Year 8 student Kiefer Thompson probably saved the lives of four boys who were cut-off by a rising tide last weekend. Not only did Kiefer notify the Coastguards, but he remained at the site until the ordeal was over and all the boys were safely rescued. Well done young man!
Wynford Davies History Prize
Congratulations to James Longster for flying the flag for Greenhill for the second year running, by being awarded, jointly with a student from Fishguard School, the prestigious Wynford Davies History Prize. Well done and good luck in future studies James.
Modern Languages Speaker
Last week, the Modern Languages Faculty was delighted to welcome Mrs. Christina Hedges from CILT (the Centre for International Language Teaching). Mrs. Hedges gave a short talk to Year 9 on the benefits of continuing with French or German in Year 10.
She pointed out that language skills were being increasingly sought after by UK employers, with over 500 companies in Wales now owned by French or German parent companies.
These businesses require people with language skills to understand telephone calls, E-mails, faxes and letters from abroad. She also noted that 60 per cent of UK trade was with Europe and that many British companies were looking for sales staff who could speak a foreign language to help them access European markets. Linguists were at a premium and could therefore command significantly higher salaries.
She said that taking a foreign language for GCSE would make you far more marketable to future employers.
