Last Thursday evening, the De Valence Pavilion in Tenby was packed to capacity. A most appreciative audience, made up of locals, parents and visitors to the area enjoyed all that the Creative Arts of Ysgol Greenhill offered.

This was the forth consecutive year that Supporters of Greenhill Orchestra have organised a summer concert in the town to raise funds for the orchestra. They are again very grateful to the Mayor and Tenby Town Council for donating the venue.

The evening's programme was varied and the Concert Band under the baton of Neil Martin opened with the lyrical 'Symphonic Gershwin', a lovely piece that set the scene.

The School Choir directed by Sarah Ellison followed this, they performed two popular songs, 'Stand By Me' and 'Georgy Girl'.

The Jazz Band then played some really foot-tapping pieces and Aimee Hicks and Miranda Rees delighted everyone with their vocal talents. The band directed by Neil Martin continued to entertain during the first part of the interval.

Tenby Male Choir opened the second half of the programme. They are ably directed by Christine Shewry and expertly accompanied by Jill Williams. The audience remained rapt throughout the choir's performance of four songs, each different in tempo and style.

It is always a pleasure to share the stage with the Male Choir and their continued connection with the school is highly valued.

Due to Paul Rapi, head of Creative Arts being indisposed, Neil Martin stepped in to conduct the Symphony Orchestra, who played with precision, 'Threnody' and 'Slavonic Dances No.8'.

This was followed by the much acclaimed orchestra who ended the evening with Oliver and Satchmo, 'A Tribute to Louis Armstrong', with which they won their class at the Urdd Eisteddfod last month.

The students looked very smart and comfortable in the new polo shirts they will wear whilst on tour to Prague. These were purchased with help from Chevron Texaco and Supporters were pleased to welcome Phil Thompson, the public affairs advisor for the company who is pleased to be associated with the orchestra.

The atmosphere was charged throughout the evening both by the fine performances and an able compere in Andrew Rees, who kindly took over at short notice from Newman Vincent who was unavailable.

SOGO are very pleased to report that the ticket sales (it was a sell out), the raffle, which received phenomenal support and the sale of programmes, by kind donation of Haven Colourprint, was a financial success. Mr. Rapi will be relieved to know that funds are available for Prague.

SOGO would like to thank everyone involved with the evening, because without the support given the successful concert would not have been possible.

SCHOOL CONCERT

Congratulations to all the students and their hard-working teachers for the wonderful concert at the De Valence on June 26. The audience was mesmerized and everyone present was moved by the sheer talent displayed.

EXAMS

Exams are finally over! Phew! Students and staff have worked exceptionally hard and are looking forward to just rewards at the end of August when the public examination results are published. An early reminder of the dates - Thursday, August 14, for AS/A Level and Key Skills and Thursday, August 21, for GCSE results.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Last week, all Year 10 students took part in a week's work experience.

The placements were varied and interesting, ranging from schools, solicitors' offices, golf courses, museums and veterinary surgeries to traffic record companies, garages, shops and riding stables.

Most of the students will be staying in and around Pembrokeshire, but a handful are venturing further afield to such places as Newcastle under Lyme, Hampshire, London and Cardiff.
