After winning their pool in Milford, Greenhill's U18s hockey squad travelled to Haverfordwest to face Sir Thomas Picton in the U18s county tournament final.

Greenhill started well, applying pressure and making most of the early chances. Their midfield of Hannah, Amanda, Nicola and Miriam passed the ball well, creating opportunities for strikers Sally and Sammy to attack STP's goal.

STP, however, did respond and they, too, had phases of attack. But the defence of Holly, Sarah, Emily and Imelda proved too strong and cleared the ball well.

The score at half-time remained at 0-0.

The second-half started much the same as the first, with Greenhill starting well. After an attempt by STP on goal, the ball ended up on the left-hand side. Miriam passed it to Sammy, who ran up the left wing and crossed it to Hannah, who passed to Sally, and Sally finished off the attack with a strong finish on goal.

After that goal, the pressure started to build up and STP had many strong attacks, but Greenhill's goalkeeper, Selina Morgan, had an outstanding game and saved some excellent shots (indeed, so far this season, Selina has not let one goal past her - well done).

The final score was 1-0 to Greenhill. Well done to all the girls, especially as they won against a team who had previously not been beaten, and a big thank you to coach, Miss Davies, for all her help and support.

Squad: Selina Morgan, Holly Watkins, Sarah Cooper, Emily Jones, Imelda Rossi, Hannah MacKay (capt.), Amanda Owen, Nicola Aston, Miriam Brown, Sammy Nicholas, Sally Maher, Jenny Edwards, Kelly Williams and Lucy Medwell.

Trials: The West Wales trials will be held next Tuesday in Aberystwyth. Players selected to attend: Selina Morgan, Amanda Owen, Sarah Cooper, Holly Watkins, Nicola Aston.

NETBALL

Fishguard won first centre-pass, but Greenhill's defence jumped high. The goals came slow, but Charlotte got one in.

The teams were now warmed up and things got rough, but Ann-Marie's chance came and she scored.

Fishguard got worried and pushed hard, which resulted in their first goal.

The game was coming to an end, but good defence and strong attack meant Charlotte got the last goal, making it 3-1 to Greenhill.

Player-of-the-match was Naomi, with great defending.

HISTORY TALK

Recently, the school was delighted to welcome Mr. Bill Snellgrove along to give Year 11 GCSE History students a talk on life in Britain during World War II. He based his talk on diaries he had kept during the period and spoke on his evacuation from London and his experiences of the Blitz. The pupils found his reminiscences fascinating and will be able to incorporate his memories into their GCSE coursework. The school would like to thank Mr. Snellgrove for sharing his wartime experiences with the students.

Also on the subject of history, congratulations to Tiffany Clewer, Fiona MacKenzie and Emma Griffiths for their success in the competition organised by the West Wales Aircrew Association. Their hard work researching a number of war graves in the county was justly rewarded with some very exciting prizes, money, books and an invitation to spend a day at the Houses of Parliament and also a day as VIP guests at RAF St. Athans. Well done girls!

Still on the subject of War, the school held a two-minute silence on Monday, November 11, in honour of all those who have lost their lives in conflict. Tutor group 7SAR performed in the Year 7 Assembly a modern version of Remembrance Day.

YOUTH WORK

The following Year 11 students have received certificates for the work they completed in the 'Take Credit For It' programme with Tammy Dibble, youth worker.

Daisy Coleman, Jessica Swales, Jenny Winfield, Dean Hamilton, Samantha Bolton, Carly Glanville, Katie Gardner, Zoe Loftus, Joanna Davies, Antonia McBride. Well done to you all.

SUPPORTERS OF GREENHILL ORCHESTRA

Supporters of Greenhill Orchestra held their second scheduled meeting of this school year on Tuesday, November 12. Fifteen people attended and five sent apologies.

Mr. Rapi reported that the trip to Blackpool in April, when the orchestra were to play for the International Rotarians, had been cancelled by them, due to prohibitive costs. The tour to Prague next year is definite and 90 students have paid the deposit.

The Urdd is to be in Port Talbot next May and as the orchestra won this year, it would be good to enter and defend the title. Arrangements and cost need to be addressed.

Everyone agreed how well the orchestra performed at the Elf Instrumental Festival on Saturday. Mr. Rapi is very pleased that the orchestra have a reputation for maintaining such a high standard.

Mrs. Appleby-Jones confirmed 14 sponsors so far have donated funds under title 'Sponsor a Desk'.

Twenty badges are to be ordered so that members officiating at concerts may be identified. Payment for these will not come from SOGO funds.

Elf Oil (Milford Haven) donated a TV so that funds may be raised to help to buy the Timp. The raffle tickets have been printed and Mrs. Barnes has distributed two books to each student at orchestra rehearsal. The draw will take place at the Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 18. Therefore, Mrs. Barnes will collect ticket stubs and money each Thursday at orchestra rehearsal.

Arrangements for the Christmas Concert were discussed. Mrs. Cooper reported that Mr. Ferris, of Haven Colourprint, would again print the programmes and donate them. Mrs. Brewer would obtain the spices for the mulled wine from Mr. Bell in the market, who was kindly donating them. Watch this space for further details and when tickets will be available.

The next meeting will be on March 4, 2003.
