CAROL CONCERT

Thank you for responding to our request for feed-back on whether a carol singing concert would be popular. The unanimous verdict was that it would be, so we have gone ahead and arranged an evening of carol singing and readings on Thursday, December 13, in the school's Main Hall, starting at 7 pm. All parents, students, staff and friends of the school are most welcome to attend.

CHRISTMAS FUN QUIZ

It's back, by popular demand! All staff and friends of Greenhill are warmly invited to attend the annual Fun Quiz, which will take place this year at the Bowling Club, Tenby, on Friday, December 7, starting at 7.30 pm. At £1.50 per person, or £7 per team of five players, this is a bargain night out, which is sure to provide lots of fun. The questions will be taken from TV, music, general knowledge, and some not so general. There are great prizes to be won, and also a raffle prize on the night.

If you would like to obtain a ticket for yourself or your team, please contact Caroline Penrith at the school. First come, first served !

AUTHOR'S VISIT

A small group of students in Year 10 were lucky enough to meet and talk to teenage author Alan Durant yesterday, in a creative writing workshop after school.

Alan had previously attended a similar session at Pembroke School on Tuesday and was well-prepared to offer useful tips and advice on how to write effectively.

All the students enjoyed their meeting with Alan, and immediately felt inspired to write after their interesting and worthwhile experience.

Our thanks must go to Eva John and Chris Stephens from the Education Department, who organised the event and to Mr. John Mozdiak for hosting the session in the school library.

CAREERS VISIT

Students from Year 11 visited a Careers Fair at Haverfordwest's Show Ground on Wednesday this week. All found it a very useful experience, and many questions about future career choices were answered.

POLITE REMINDER!

Would all parents who drive their children to school in the morning, kindly refrain from using both the Heywood Lane and Marsh Road school drives, unless they have sought prior notice for exceptional circumstances. Both drives are heavily congested in the mornings, and it is therefore imperative that car users are kept to a minimum, for safety reasons. Your co-operation with this matter is greatly appreciated.

PARENTS EVENING

Next Wednesday, November 28, is the date for this year's Year 10 parents evening. Between 4 adn 6.30 pm, all tutors of students in Year 10 will be available in the Sixth Form Centre. The normal appointmentsí system will apply.

PTA

The next meeting of the PTA committee is on Tuesday night, November 27, in the Headmaster's Office at 7.30 pm.

GIRLS SPORT

HOCKEY

On Thursday, November 8, Greenhill's Year 11 hockey team played Fishguard and won the game by a goal to nil. The team were particularly pleased with the victory as Fishguard had beaten them previously in the recent County Hockey Tournament finals. The winning goal was scored by left-winger Samantha Nicholas.

Captained by Hannah Mackay, the team included Imelda Rossi, Emily Jones, Jenni Edwards in defence, Miriam Brown and Amanda Owen in midfield and Sally Maher, Kelly Marie Williams and Samantha Nicholas as forwards, with Selina Morgan doing a brilliant job in goal. Well done girls!

Yesterday, all girls' hockey and netball teams played away at Tasker Milward School, Haverfordwest. Reports to follow.

Next week, we are scheduled to play Ysgol y Preseli, Crymych. Wish us luck !

Last Tuesday's Under 19s hockey tournament was cancelled due to bad weather, but will be re-scheduled soon.

BOYS SPORT

FOOTBALL

Football Festival: On Tuesday this week, the Pembrokeshire Year 7 Football Festival was held at Tenby Leisure Centre. We entered three boys teams and two girlsí teams into the competition. All the boys' teams did particularly well, and we are delighted to say that our Girls A team won the competition. Nikki Furlong was also voted 'Player of the Tournament', a highly sought after award. Well done to all our players!

Greenhill v Milford Haven: Last Wednesday, November 14, our Year 7 team played away at Milford Haven. Due to injury, we were only able to field 10 players, so the final score of 3-0 to Milford showed a good performance by Greenhill's players.

Under 14s Dyfed final: We have qualified for the final of the Under 14s Dyfed football tournament, and will be playing against Milford Haven School soon. Good luck, Greenhill!

RUGBY

Last week, Greenhill's Year 10 rugby team played against Netherwood, with Tom James captaining the side. Scorers included Tom Evans (2 tries), Tom James, Jay French, Craig McGhee and Ricky Rees-Thomas. Normally, one player is singled out for 'Man of the Match', but in this instance, the entire team deserve praise for an inspiring performance. However, mention must be made of Jay French's quite incredible run, dodging nine players to score his try. The final score was 29-12 to Greenhill. Well done boys!

Welsh Schools Saturday League: Ystalyfera cancelled our game last Saturday, but it will be played at a later date. Watch this space!

Welsh Cup: We are due to play the third round match of the Welsh Cup tournament against Tregaron School at home. The date will be announced soon.

Reports to follow: Yesterday, Thursday, our Year 7 and Year 8 rugby teams and Year 10 football team played at home against Sir Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest. Full reports will follow next week.

Next Thursday, our Years 7, 8 and 11 rugby teams will be playing rugby against Tasker Milward School, Haverfordwest. Good luck!
