GOLF

On Monday, the Pembrokeshire Schools Golf Tournament took place at the South Pembrokeshire Golf Course, Pembroke. Six golfers participated from Ysgol Greenhill School, from which the four top scores were counted for the result. Between them, Oliver Duckett, Mark Heywood, David Ayers, Niclas Thomas and Dan Cope scored an incredible 146 points, and won the tournament by a considerable margin, beating their nearest rivals, Pembroke and Sir Thomas Picton School, quite conclusively. Our congratulations to to them all!

RUGBY DEVELOPMENT TOUR TO CANADA

The long awaited Vancouver rugby tour began on Wednesday, with great excitement for the adventure and experiences to be had! Over the past five years, four rugby tour visits have taken place by schools from the Vancouver area to Ysgol Greenhill School, so a return visit was much overdue.

In total, over £7,000 was raised from a variety of fund-raising events which ranged from the sensible to the often hilarious (ask Dean Richards!), plus the sponsorship very generously donated by local business establishments, for which the school is very grateful.

This will be a four-match tour beginning at Abbotsford, before crossing the water to Vancouver Island to play in Victoria, then moving up to the Chilliwack Mountains to camp for two nights, before finally coming to rest at Vancouver for two days before flying home.

In addition to the support of local businesses, the PE Department would like to thank Nicky Rees and John Dodd for their indefatigable help with the training sessions held in preparation for the tour.

All the staff and students wish the tour well, and we look forward to hearing all the stories they will have to tell on their return. Good luck, boys!

LIBRARY NEWS

A great day was had at Camelot Books, Cardiff, yesterday, by a team of library student helpers from Ysgol Greenhill School and Pembroke School. The students enjoyed deciding which books they were going to buy for their school library out of money allocated to them, and came away with a few purchases of their own. No doubt, they will also look forward to promoting their choice of books in the autumn term.

GNVQ STUDENTS COMPLETE STUDIES

A group of Year 13 students from Greenhill School have just completed an Advanced GNVQ qualification in one of the following subjects - Business Studies, Health and Social Care, Leisure and Tourism and Science.

The vocational courses listed are work-related qualifications that allow students to gain experience in industry and commerce and prepare students for employment. The courses also provide an accepted route into higher education.

Ten students achieved distinction, 16 achieved merit and two students achieved passes. The awards are the equivalent to two A Level passes ranging from A and E.

Most of the students are progressing to higher education in a wide range of subjects. Several are planning a gap year or have a career opportunity in mind. All are very pleased with the outcome of two years hard work.
