Yesterday saw the final fixture of the senior boys winter league tennis take place. Ross and Greg Helmich, Gareth Hughes and Gavin Britton represented Greenhill School.
Results will feature in next week's Newyddion Greenhill News.
On Monday, May 21, the Lawn Tennis Association are organising the Aberdare Cup, which is a senior girls competition. Our team comprises Sian Bennett, Sophie Beynon, Susan Hughes and Anna Joseph.
ATHLETICS
On Wednesday, May 23, the TSB Cup will be played at Sir Thomas Picton, Haverfordwest. A variety of athletics events will be played, and teams are combined. So, students in Years 7 and 8 will join as a team, students in Years 9 and 10 join together, and finally an 11 years and upwards team will play, all athletes being selected as a result of their performances at the County Sports on Saturday. Good luck !
CRICKET
Next week, we will be playing the re-arranged West Wales Under 14s Cricket Cup Final which was originally delayed due to bad weather. The winners go through to the Welsh final, with the winners of that then going on to Lord's. We shall be keeping all our fingers crossed for the team !
LIBRARY QUIZ
An eager crowd of quiz fans assembled in the Library last Friday lunch-time to take part in the Middle of May Quiz. Twenty questions were asked to teams of up to four people. The winners were:
1. The Divs (Cathy Fong, Raegan Sidley, Zara-Louise Appleby-Jones and Fiona MacKenzie, of Year 8); 2. Too Cool (Tony Thomas and Chris Morgan, of Year 9); 3. Road Runners (Owen Renault, Tom Edwards, Joseph Llama and Charles Goldwait, of Year 8).
Following many requests, the next quiz will be on Friday, May 25.
READING ROLLER
COASTER
Oakwood's Mississippi Showboat was the venue for the Pembrokeshire Reading Rollercoaster presentation yesterday (Thursday). Our winners, Georgina Tranter and Sarah Auty, both of Year 7, were awarded their prizes by children's author Alan Durant and then, along with all the other prize-winners, had the opportunity to sample the delights of the infamous Megaphobia !
Although the Reading Rollercoaster has come to an end, it has proved a great success in encouraging all our students to read by making it fun and adding a competitive element to it. The next challenge will begin in October, and will hopefully continue to encourage readers and inspire reading.
