Dogs Trust has welcomed news that greyhound racing could end in Wales in 2027.
On Thursday, the Welsh Government published the Prohibition of Greyhound Racing (Wales) Bill, outlining plans to end greyhound racing in Wales as soon as 2027.
James Fitch, Public Affairs Manager at Dogs Trust, said the “Bill marks a significant step towards ending greyhound racing in Wales,” adding, “we are pleased that the Bill will also prevent the training and trialling of greyhounds for racing in other locations.
“We would like it to go further and prevent the breeding of greyhounds in Wales for racing elsewhere.”
Since 2017, 4,034 greyhounds have died or been put to sleep because of their involvement with racing, with over 35,000 injuries reported.
