Botswana Project Update
At the recent handover meeting of Tenby Rotary Club, outgoing president John Bowen updated members on the club's international project to support an orphanage in Botswana.
During the year, with support from Tenby Junior School and Rotary district 1150, the club donated over £1,600 to the SOS children's village in Botswana.
A further £1,000 was donated by a third party as a result of the club's initiative.
The funds were used to purchase instruments for a marimba band. Music is a large part of the education at the village and whilst it enriches the lives of the children, concerts also enable additional funds to be raised to further support the village.
Last Friday, the president of Botswana, Seretse Khama Ian Khama, opened the third SOS Village at Serowe, with the children of Tlokweng SOS Village providing entertainment with their newly-acquired marimba instruments.
Derek James, director of SOS Botswana, wrote to the club and said: "It was a very successful occasion and your support is greatly appreciated."
