Pupils and staff at Tenby Junior Community School have been busy collecting items to pass on as Christmas boxes for children in Eastern Europe. The Inner Wheel of Tenby is again this year organising the collection of shoe boxes filled with gifts for youngsters overseas who do not experience the type of Christmas pleasures which our children in Tenby are so fortunate to have.
When approached, the children, staff and parents at the school all agreed that they should support this excellent initiative and went about filling shoe boxes with treasures and treats for children who are victims of war, disaster or poverty. Many of these children live in orphanages and are without family support, making Christmas a tragically sad time of year for them.
We at school hope that our small contributions will make a real difference to the Christmas celebrations of many children in need and that they will know the pleasure of receiving as we have felt the pleasure in giving!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this important cause.
The school plans to continue its support for children in Romania by adopting a programme of planned activities through Hope and Homes for Children, a charity specifically targeting children in great need in Africa and Eastern Europe.
SPORTING SCENE
Tenby Junior School have been really busy in the sports department this term! Through the term they have been practising football, rugby, netball, running, gymnastics, as well as Dragon Fun Club!
The first event they entered was the cross country, at Haverfordwest, where some of the children did really well and came in the top 10 winning a medal.
Daniel Edwards came sixth and won himself a medal, as did Eleanor Brown who came fifth, and Kirk Lester 10th. Thank you to Mrs. Carol Brown for looking after the team.
The annual netball and football tournament took place on Friday, November 8. Normally this is an outdoor event, but due to the weather, there had to be a quick change of plan and the Leisure Centre very kindly stepped in to rescue us!
Pentlepoir, Saundersfoot, St. Teilo's and Stepaside turned out in force to compete in the tournament.
The six-a-side football tournament was a strongly contested affair; with goals being scored left, right and centre!
Congratulations to Tenby who won the football shield with eight points, winning every game.
The netball tournament also turned out to be an eagerly fought affair, with the ball flying from one end of the court to another, with goals being scored ding dong!
Congratulations to St. Teilo's who won the netball with eight points, winning every game.
This year there was an overall trophy for the school that scored the most points in both events. It went to Saundersfoot - well done.
Thank you to all the schools for turning out and competing fairly, in cramped conditions! We hope you enjoyed the afternoon and congratulations to you all.
NETBALL
On Friday, November 8, Tenby netball team went to Tenby Leisure Centre to play a tournament against four different schools (writes Lucy Morris, captain).
There was Tenby, Stepaside, St. Teilo's, Saundersfoot and Pentlepoir.
We had an excellent centre, with marvellous defenders. All of the teams played really well, with St. Teilo's doing their very best and coming first.
We had two very good shooters, Penny Liddell and Lucy Morris; they had a hard challenge, but managed to pop a few goals in.
When we played Stepaside they rally tried hard, as we did, both of us eager to win, but the final score was 3-2 to Stepaside. At least we had given them a good game.
When we played St. Teilo's, our defenders did really well, but the final score was 4-3 to St. Teilo's.
When we were up against Pentlepoir we were really up for it, and thankfully there was a change in fortune! We won 4-1! We had a wonderful centre and brilliant defenders; that was our favourite game!
When we played Saundersfoot they worked really hard and beat us 4-0. We were just too tired to compete!
The captain for the day was Lucy Morris.
Our team was: Lucy Morris, Elena Ciccotti, Penny Liddell, Jessica Wellum, Scott Meades, Chelsie Rees, Heather Whittaker, Megan Robson, Georgina Davies, Emma Taylor and Samantha Welch.
FOOTBALL
On Friday, November 8, our school team went down to the Leisure Centre to play football (writes Alex Harley). Our first match was against Stepaside. We played very well and managed to win 2-0. Then it was St. Teilo's, the easiest team of all.
They put up a good fight, but we beat them 6-0. Next match was against Saundersfoot. They had some good players who played for Pembrokeshire. One of their players accidentally pushed Ciaran over; he got a bleeding nose and was not able to carry on. But we won 3-1.
The last match was against Pentlepoir. We thought they would be easy, but we struggled in the four minutes. In the last minute, Thomas scored a penalty and we won 4-1.
The team was Henry Lawrence (goalkeeper), Alex Harley (capt.), Cairan Broomhead, Lloyd Thomas, Thomas Nicholas, Greg Lees Griffiths, Daryl Mansbridge, Lewis Hodgson, Carl Lewis, Cerith Messenger and Ianto Griffiths.
