The annual School Gala was held on Tuesday, July 8. After some very high quality racing in which all the children of Willow and Rowan class took part, Mounton emerged as the eventual winners. They narrowly defeated Templar house by one point, very closely followed by Poyer and Sentence. The team captains, Dean Norman and Georgia Roderick, are pictured with the Gala Shield.
Hockey Success
On Friday, July 4, Templeton School travelled to the Welsh 'Activate' Hockey finals at Newtown, Powys. The team had qualified for the finals by being winners in both the Pembrokeshire and then Ceredigion tournaments. Ten teams reached these finals and this was the school's third appearance there in four years. The other teams came from all regions of Wales to compete. The team played brilliantly to finish in fourth place overall. Considering the age of the team and the size of the school, this was a fantastic effort. The school would like to thank those who helped sponsor the team by paying for transport: Mrs. Burgess, Mr. and Mrs. Morse, Mrs. DeVall, Mrs. Bevan, Whitland Engineering and Ann and Bob Adams; also all the parents of the team who contributed to the cost, and those who travelled to support the children. It was a long day, leaving at 6.45 am and returning after 7 pm. Mrs. Roderick is to be thanked for the sponsorship of the kit, printed with the children's names. Mr. Perkins, the headteacher, would like to thank Mrs. Brenda Scourfield for her hard work in getting the children to this standard. This was a tremendous achievement.
New covered area
In order to meet the needs of the Foundation stage, an area outside Oak class at Templeton School has just been covered. The firm involved took only three days to complete the task and Mr. Ian Harries is to be thanked for his help in loaning machinery to move a shed from this area. The children will use the space to do extended activities in the open air. The project has been funded by the school and will add greatly to the challenging outdoor environment already provided by the school. Pictured with the children are Clr. Elwyn Morse, governor Kathy Hicks, headteacher Mike Perkins, deputy Mrs. Lyn James, learning support assistant Maggie Harrison and Gemma Vaughan.
PLAYGROUP DISCO SUCCESS
Narberth Rugby Club was the venue for a recent '70s and '80s night held to raise funds for Templetots Playgroup. The disco ensured everyone spent most of the night on the dance floor 'strutting their stuff' in some fabulous fancy dress outfits. Thanks must go to the following local businesses for the generous raffle prizes donated: Simply Balance, Pembroke Garden Village, The Captains Table, Larkspur Garage, Landsker Stores, Le Creuset, Wales Environmental, Cross Villa and Homebase. The evening was a great success and raised £850 for Templetots. Barclays Bank agreed to match fund some of the money raised, adding another £750 and bringing the event in at a grand total of £1,600 raised for Templetots Playgroup. Jean King, Barclays community affairs, said: "We are committed to our local communities and hope the funding helps this local playgroup in their future development." A huge thank you must be extended to everyone involved in making the night such a great success. Pictured handing over the cheque are Alison Pearce (Barclays Bank), Nicola Griffiths, Ann Gamage, Alison Davies and some children from Templetots Playgroup.
COUNCIL DONATION
Templeton Community Council recently gave Templeton School, Templeton School PTA and Templetots Playgroup £100 each to help with the purchase of new books and story sacks. Seen in the picture are Mr. Mike Perkins (head), Mrs. Ann Gamage (playschool supervisor), Mrs. Nicola Griffiths (chair, Templeton Community Council) and other members of the council.
