Historical Design Inspiration

Class 4 designed these t-shirts after looking at Celtic patterns in their history work.   Area Infant sports

St. Oswald's School was the venue for this year's area infant sports. The team who are pictured did very well with both good team and individual results: Bean Bag Race - Gabrielle third; Egg and Spoon Race - Chloe second; Sack Race - Harrison third; Sprint - James third; Obstacle Race - Harrison first; James second; Team, Tunnel Ball - St. Teilo's first. The boys relay team of Zac, James, Harrison and Elliott came second, while the girls relay team of Keira, Chloe, Lillie and Gabrielle came third. Finally, in the long race, James came third. Thank you to St. Oswald's for making the event so enjoyable.   Pembrokeshire Schools Film Festival

On Wednesday, July 11, Class 4 swapped their uniform for an altogether more glamorous look as they set off for the Pembrokeshire Schools' Film Festival at The Merlin Theatre in Haverfordwest. Class 4 had entered their film 'Tudor Tenby Time Travel', the adjudicators 'liked the time travel idea bringing Tudor children into the present day and using film to enhance the teaching of history....the actors performed well and the school has produced a useful teaching resource as well as an entertaining movie.' Well done Class 4!   Watersports

Year 6 recently enjoyed a visit to Pembrokeshire Activity Centre. They took part in many different activities including: rock climbing, problem solving, sailing, kayaking, orienteering and rafting. The highlight of the trip was the talent show on Saturday night. Thanks to Mike Smith.   Castell Henllys Visit

On Wednesday, July 4, Year 5 and 6 went to Castell Henllys as part of their history project.

Well done to Leo, of Year 1, who recently sat his piano prep test, a very positive start to his piano playing! Also pictured is Lucy Gleed, of Year 6, who did very well recently passing Grade 1 in singing with merit.

Irish Dancing Talent

Shannon Robins recently took part in the Irish Open competition for CRN Irish Dancers at The Mansion House in Dublin. This year was a very special year for dancers who qualified to dance in the Open competition, as it was also the 25th anniversary of CRN dancing. Shannon danced really well and was positioned in eighth place for her age group of under 11. Also, the Julie Hynes Memorial Feile was held recently in Saundersfoot, three dancers from St. Teilo's took part. Megan Bridges and Lois Scale took part in their first competition, they both danced well and were up against some stiff competition from dancers from as far away as The Netherlands.  Shannon also took part in this competition in which she won first place in two dances and second place in another two dances. They all thoroughly enjoyed dancing in this competition as it was close to home and they could be watched by family and friends.

Sponsored Cycle Ride

Saturday, July 14, saw a group of parents ably supported by staff member Mrs. Jane Conbeer undertake a sponsored cycle ride to raise funds to buy some new lap top computers for use within the school. The event proved a great success, starting and finishing at Kilgetty Social Club via Cresswell Quay, Carew, Redberth, East Williamston and back to Kilgetty. As well as sponsorship, cyclists collected money en-route. It is estimated that the venture has raised around £700, which will hopefully be increased by Abbey in matched funding. This is an excellent result, which could not have been achieved without the excellent organisational skills of Simon Rowell and the commitment of the pictured cyclists. A perfect day was rounded off with parents and children enjoying a delicious BBQ! A big thank you must go to all at the Kilgetty Social Club for their great kindness and support.

Fete

Tuesday, June 26, saw the re-scheduled fete take place. Despite the persistent wind, the bottle, book, toy, plant, cake, sweet and refreshment stalls were soon in full swing. Class 3 and 4 children devised their own stalls and came up with some very inventive ideas, some of which saw the children sacrificing themselves to the horrors of water bombs and sponges or cream pies for some it was both! Well done to everyone and thank you to all who organized, donated and bought.

Early Years Sports Day

A huge crowd of family and friends gathered to watch the Early Years Sports Day. The children knew something special was happening as they paraded out to the sports field to the sound of the Elephants March from Jungle Book! Following a variety of events including bean bag, sprint, brick, obstacle, crawling and 'marathon' races, the children had a well-earned snack and drink. Parents were not disappointed as the ever-popular mums and dads races featured as usual! After certificates were awarded the medal ceremony took place with Madison third, Ameya second and Rhys first. Congratulations to you all!

Tenby Infant and Junior choirs also performed making a very enjoyable event, which was much appreciated by the audience. Well done to the choir and Mrs. Blackledge!

Inter parish sports

Teams from catholic schools in Carmarthen, Fishguard, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock, Aberystwyth and Tenby, recently competed in the inter-parish sports held in Haverfordwest. The morning saw netball and football tournaments in the morning and racing in the afternoon. The boys football team did very well in winning the closely contested football competition and the girls narrowly lost the netball, but came in second place overall. Well done to all the players and the sports competitors who had some excellent results.

Big THANK YOU!

Staff, pupils and Governors wish to say a huge thank you to Andrew James and Elena Rodriguez for the many years of faithful service in producing the weekly school newsletter. It has been an invaluable resource for all and its value has even been commented upon in recent school inspections. Elena has also run the uniform shop in school for many years and organided the collecting and ordering for the Tesco vouchers scheme, for which the school is very grateful. Fortunately, new volunteers have come forward to fill these vacancies, so good luck to Clare Pey and Tracey Rees for next school year.
