Despite the recent heavy rain, four pupils from Pembroke Dock Community School braved the muddy conditions to run in a cross country race organised by Welsh Athletics at Dinefwr House, Llandeilo, on Saturday, February 15.

Participants came from as far afield as Cardiff, with the top 25 placed runners receiving a medal.

In the Year 5 boys race, Thomas Donovan was placed 15th. Kieran Smith and Ryan Harrison were placed 21st and 34th, respectively, in the Year 6 boys race and Nia Williams was 25th in the Year 6 girls race.

Well done to all who braved the elements in a 'true cross country race'!

SWIMMING SUCCESS

At the recent Urdd National Swimming Gala, five girls went to Cardiff to the National Swimming Pool to represent Pembroke Dock Community School and Pembrokeshire.

They had two individual swimmers in the backstroke finals - Caera Lewis (Year 3) and Nia Williams (Year 6) and a medley relay team of four Year 6 girls - Martha Wilson (backstroke), Louise Mear (breaststroke), Nia Williams (butterfly) and Kirsty Cook (freestyle).

Nia, in her individual race, and the relay team were all placed fifth overall - a very good performance resulting from personal bests.

The greatest achievement, though, happened earlier in the day when Caera Lewis, who was only eight the day before the race and one of the youngest competitors there who had qualified with the fastest time, held her nerve in the final to win a gold medal!

We are extremely proud of all the girls, well done!
