Anniversary: The pool has now been community owned and run for a year (writes Sue Rees, chair of SwimNarberth). Our anniversary was November 1. We hope to hold our first annual general meeting in January, when we will have a better idea of how we are doing, but in the meantime I would like to thank everyone for the fantastic effort they have made. We were told in December 2013 that we would never do it and it would never work, but we did and it has! It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication from a small, determined group, overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles, raising a massive amount of money, in a very short period of time. But we would not have succeeded without the fantastic continuing support of everyone. Thanks also to Jacqueline for being our linchpin, getting all the information out to everyone.
The bio-mas boiler is up and running, but there have been some teething problems, which will hopefully be sorted out very soon.
We are hoping to start the installation of the PV panels before Christmas and again over the holiday period we will be looking for volunteers to paint and clean, so if you don’t want to get bored, give the pool a ring.
Well done everyone, keep up the good work!
Thanks: Thank you to all the wonderful people who have taken time to train once/twice a week to qualify as volunteer lifeguards at the pool (writes Jennifer Price). To others who have given their time either on reception and cleaning. To the ones who help plan our fundraising events and also the cake makers (who again support all we do). Local businesses that never say no when we call asking for support for events. The committee members who tirelessly plod on with all sorts of interesting and time consuming details of the running of the pool. The staff who have stayed with us and, although paid, relentlessly battle on with all sorts of new and wonderful obstacles in the way, never complaining and just getting on with job. To the ones that make sure all events are posted on Facebook and on our website. To our shareholders who helped us continue to keep the pool open. If I have missed anyone out, I am sorry and thank you as well. A special thank you to the community which continues to support us. To the pool hirers and the local schools. It is now a year since the community took over the pool, I think you can pat yourselves on the back, you are doing a great job.Thank you all.
Spinathon: Thank you to everybody who helped raise just over £2,000 during the Spinathon and thank you to David Maund, who organised the event. The money will be split between four local pools and Wales Air Ambulance.
Plants and flowers: Tavernspite Garden Centre have donated their time and taken the baskets and various pots and containers to fill with winter pansies and salvage and revitalise the old plants. We have only paid £35 for all of this as they have given us a huge discount. They will bring the baskets back and put back up for us when ready. Thank you.
Volunteering: Reception - We are struggling with cover on the desk on Saturday morning. Can anyone volunteer their time, once every four weeks, on the desk from 10 am to 1 pm? If you can or if you have any questions, please contact the pool on (01834) 860940. Thank you.
The gift of swimming: Why not give the special gift of fun and improved fitness? You can buy a membership for unlimited use during public sessions or Aquafit.
Monthly membership (no min term) - £20; half yearly (one-off fee) - £105; yearly (one-off fee) - £180; Aquafit (one-off fee) - 10 sessions £49.50 (Aquafit sessions are run by SwiNarberth, not by an independent coach who just hires the pool).
For more information, please call the pool.
Winter Carnival: We are taking part in the Winter Carnival. We already have a truck, generator and driver. We are looking for some ideas as to theme. We have done most of the water themes. Any ideas?
Christmas: The pool will be closed from December 13, last day open will be Saturday, 12th. This allows staff to take holidays, plus any maintenance, painting and decorating to be done. We will be back on Monday, January 4, 2016.
Fundraising: The inflatable fun was a great success. Thank you to Mel for organising it and to everyone who helped on the day, donated cakes or came along to join in the fun. We raised £483.80 for the pool.
Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who helped out on the day and people who donated the fantastic display of cakes (writes Mel). Although it seemed to be a slow start, it picked up and vast amounts of cakes and coffee were consumed after all the fun in the pool.
A special thanks to Narberth Saturday Swim Club for manning the cake and coffee stall. Cakes were made and donated by several people, including the 55+ Club, Sue Rees, Swim Club, Jenny Price, the list could go on.
Thanks to everyone who supported us yet again by buying the tickets for the inflatable sessions, totalling £312. Cake sales total was £171.80, which gave us a final total of £483.80.
Finally, but by no means last, a massive thanks to Jacqueline for all the promoting of the event on Facebook and the staff and volunteer lifeguards who manned the poolside to ensure fun was had by all.
Pool information and updates: Adult lessons - a new course will start in January 2016 for beginners and improvers. For more information and start dates, please ring the pool.

As this will be the last pool notes of 2015, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our simmers and supporters a very good Christmas and a happy New Year.
