Beach cleaning, entertaining children at four primary schools and visiting residents at a care home and day centre, the pupils from all year groups in Castle School spent a busy Wednesday participating in a community day linked to a Rotary Club initiative.

A group of Year 10 pupils presented a panto sketch to pupils at Redhill School, Haverfordwest, Sageston CP School and St. Florence CP School.

Year 9 pupils visited Stackpole School to read stories and listen to youngsters reading, while boys from Year 8 cleared litter off Manorbier Beach for Pembrokeshire National Parks.

Year 7 pupils were enthusiastic visitors to East Park Care Home, Jeffreyston, where they served home-made cakes and entertained the residents.

Over at Narberth, Year 9 students organised a general knowledge quiz and served home-made cake to visitors at the Lee-Davies Day Care Centre, while back at the school, Year 8 students prepared, hosted and served a lunch for a group of local residents invited by Mrs. Ethel Wooltorton.

Castle School principal, Mrs. Harriet Harrison, who co-wrote the panto with teacher Mrs. Ruth Harris, hailed the community day as a huge success.

"We were able to vary our community activities even more this year," she said, "and I think our students not only contributed wholeheartedly, but also gained a lot from this experience."
