Members of the Saundersfoot Festivities Association were on hand last week to launch the annual New Year's Day Swim that takes place in the village. A huge sign board has been put on display outside Saundersfoot's Royal Oak pub to promote this year's charity swim, which Chris Williams hopes will be bigger and better than ever. "The event has become a real family day out and as well as all the locals that take part by donning fancy dress costumes, the swim attracts a lot of people into the village," he said. "All the pubs in the village get involved and put on entertainment, with free cawl for all those who have taken part," added Chris. Powells Cottage Holidays are sponsoring a free holiday for the fund-raiser with the highest amount of sponsors, while main sponsors, Oakwood, are giving away tickets for the highest sponsored group. 2006's swim attracted over 600 competitors and hundreds of spectators, with over £25,000 raised for charity. A website is also in the process of being set up, which will feature news on the swim, photographs, details on accommodation and also a list of all the charities, as well as advertising by the sponsors. "We're looking for people to give us as much feedback as possible on the event, so that we can put photos of past swims and any interesting stories on the site," said Chris. The address of the website which is in the works will be http://www.saunderfootnyds.co.uk">www.saunderfootnyds.co.uk Contact Saundersfoot Festivities Association chairman, Martyn Williams, on 01834 813039 for further details. Another Oakwood sponsored sign board will also be put on display in the village, while Powells Cottage Holidays have sponsored posters which will be put in all the resort's pubs. Sponsor forms are available from Evans Newsagents in the village. Saundersfoot Festivities Association are very grateful to all the sponsors and also to the Saundersfoot Sports Club for putting on the shower facilities for dippers to use after the swim.
