A scientist from Whitland has been recognised in the Queen's New Year's Honours List.
Professor Dawood Parker (pictured) received the MBE for services to science and international development.
As a scientist, the award was in recognition of the work he did in developing a device for measuring the oxygen levels in premature babies.
After leaving the University of London, he founded Melys Diagnostics in Whitland, but more recently has been working with the Institute of Physics to help scientists in developing countries to start their own businesses and improve their economic situation.
Professor Parker said he was 'very surprised' and 'honoured' to receive the award.
Elsewhere, there were awards for Christine Evans-Thomas and Shirley Williams.
Christine Evans-Thomas has continued the fundraising work of her son Adam, who died of leukaemia in 2004, and the Bucketful of Hope Appeal she founded has gone gone on to raise £500,000. She received the MBE for her services to cancer patients, but she dedicated it to her son Adam.
Meanwhile, choir leader Shirley Williams from Camrose was honoured with the BEM for services to music and developing the Landskers choirs.

It is lovely to get the the recognition for all the hard work, effort and sacrifice along the way, but I have to also thank all the staff who have worked so tirelessly along-side me for many years.
