The construction of a huge factory in Pembroke Dock will create an additional 100 jobs for local people.

Contractors Dawnus Construction completed the 10,000m2 development for Cambrian Windows, one of Britain's largest window and door manufacturers, in August.

Work at the Kingswood Industrial Estate site, a former quarry, has included the construction of a new 100,000sq ft factory unit, including fully fitted out high specification offices and associated infrastructure works under a design and build contract.

Civil elements include land reclamation, dynamic compaction, car park construction, ring beam construction and forming a jointless slab inside the steel framed factory.

"We are delighted to be part of this high profile project," said Dawnus director Andy Peters, who is overseeing the project. "It will contribute to the local economy and employment prospects - and the development of the area in general."

Ken Morgan, of Ken Morgan Design and Building Management Ltd., who was Cambrian Windows' consultant for the project, commented: "The initial contract was let at £1.3m for site remediation; foundations; floor slab and services connections. I was so impressed by Dawnus' site organisation and attention to health and safety that their contract was extended to complete the fitting out of the offices as soon as the main building shell had been made watertight. The building was completed within a tight timescale and with excellent workmanship."

The contract is worth £1.8m to Swansea-based Dawnus Construction, which was formed in 2002. It currently employs more than 240 staff and directly employed tradesmen and construction operatives with offices in Exeter, Bangor, Llanelli and Swansea. Turnover in 2004 exceeded £16 million and is expected to top £35 million in 2005.
