At 8 ’o’ clock this morning, the Welsh Government issued the following announcement on their Facebook page:
“From today, it’s illegal in Wales for a licensed commercial seller to sell a puppy or kitten they’ve not bred on the premises.
“They can now only be purchased where they were bred, where they can be seen with their mother, or from a rescue or rehoming centre.”
Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths says she is “absolutely delighted” at the outcome of three years’ work to get this legislation through and make sure enforcement is viable.
Reacting to the news, animal lovers have welcomed the change in the law as a “step in the right direction.“
