A new Welsh Language course was launched by the Welsh Joint Education Committee in August this year at the National Eisteddfod of Wales near Bangor.

The new 'Cwrs Mynediad' course will take the place of the old 'Dosbarth Nos' and will be targeting adults who are starting to learn Welsh in South Wales.

As well as the course book, a practice pack is available, containing homework exercises, and also revision CDs or cassettes.

Initial reaction to the new course book and support materials has been excellent. New students enrolling on Welsh Stage One Classes in Pembrokeshire will be able to take advantage of this new course in September.

A number of taster sessions have been arranged at all our main Community Learning Centres where students will be given a brief outline of the course and what they should achieve during their first year of learning Welsh.

There has been a marked increase in the number of students learning Welsh in Pembrokeshire over the past few years.

Last year, saw in excess of 700 students studying Welsh across the county.

The reason behind the increase seems to be varied with many adults learning Welsh in order to increase their chances of obtaining a job or improving their job prospects, others study in order to help their children with their schoolwork and to integrate fully into the community. Whatever the reason, there are a large number of Welsh classes available across the county and close to you.
