A fresh application for a ‘traveller site on the outskirts of Saundersfoot has been submitted, despite previous plans being turned down by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority earlier this year.

The scheme for the creation of one traveller site incorporating one static caravan, one touring caravan, day/utility room and ecological enhancements (partly retrospective) on land at Froghall Yard, Moreton Lane, Saundersfoot, was recommended for refusal at the May 21 meeting of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s development management committee, having previously been deferred for a site visit by members.

Nearly 300 people signed a petition against the scheme; while around 50 people attended a meeting of Saundersfoot Community Council, whose members voted unanimously to object to the application by Dai Evans of Pontypool, through agents Hayston Developments & Planning Ltd.

When the application came before members of PCNPA’s development management committee back in May, Saundersfoot county councillor for the seaside village’s south ward Cllr Chis Williams moved members support the officer recommendation of refusal, adding he supported the applicant’s agent Mr Vaughan-Harries’ call for more provision for traveller sites but stressed: “however, I do not think this is the correct location.”

Now, a new application [partly retrospective - reference: NP/25/0536/FUL] has been submitted to PCNPA, afain proposing the creation of one traveller site incorporating one static caravan, one touring caravan, one day/utility room and ecological enhancements & woodland creation on surrounding land.

One concerned local sharing the status of the application on social media, commented: “The Traveller Site application that the Community Council overwhelmingly opposed and the Planning Committee refused has not been appealed - instead, a new application has been made.

“The enforcement notice to remove the caravan and shed and return the land to its natural state has once again been extended, even though the law does not normally permit a new application as a method of avoiding an enforcement notice when an appeal has not been made.

“If you have any comments to make about the new application for a traveller site in Saundersfoot please make them to: [email protected] (planning reference: NP/25/0536/FUL)

“Any previous comments will not have been linked to this new but essentially identical application,” they added.

One local resdent, also contacted the Observer over the matter, stating: “We write on behalf of concerned residents at a recent twist in the pre-existing refusal and enforcement notice on an unsanctioned development of a new ‘traveller site’ on the outskirts of Saundersfoot village, outside the permitted development boundary.

“The previously refused, now revised application includes, an improved ecological and supporting ‘confidential’ statements that appear to have gained favour with planning authorities.

“Currently there are no plans to send this revised application to the development management committee for discussion and it looks likely a decision will be made by a single planning officer,” they added.

The fresh planning application has been scheduled for Community Council discussion and review at Saundersfoot’s Regency Hall for November 6 at 6pm.
