A new pilot course to train stewards has been held by Pembrokeshire County Council, Dyfed Powys Police and Planed. Approximately 40 stewards for the Blue Rock Event in North Pembrokeshire took part in the eight-hour course in Crymych. "The aim was to inform stewards of their roles and responsibilities and to assist in the running of safe, vibrant and economically viable events," said Sarah Oliver, senior environmental health officer. Participants received training in customer care, health and safety, transport management, admission policies, crowd control, and many other issues. Feedback included 'very informative' and 'I didn't really know before what a steward's job consisted of, but now feel well informed on all aspects'. "This is the first time that steward training has been done in this way in Pembrokeshire," said Sarah. "Based on the very positive feedback we received, we are hoping we can obtain further funding to proceed with this project in the future." The course was written by Pembrokeshire County Council officers and delivered by Sarah Oliver, Tony Davies, of Dyfed Powys Police, PC Max Bevan and PC Craig Morgan, of Dyfed Powys Police community safety and road policing unit respectively.
