After only weeks of opening, Wilkinson staff at the new Pembroke Dock store have been getting their hands dirty in the local community to raise funds for Children with Leukaemia at this year's Cheeky Monkies Marathon Challenge. Based on the idea of the London Marathon's 26- mile run, Pembroke Dock contestants aged between six and 18 were set their own '26' challenge in the form of a sponsored sandcastle building competition. The 2008 Cheeky Monkies Marathon Challenge saw contestants take to Pembroke Dock beach for a sandcastle building frenzy with each young contender aiming to create an impressive 26 sandcastles in just four hours. Assistant supervisor at Wilkinson's Pembroke Dock store on Pier Road, Llanion Park, Karen Hayes, attended the event with her daughter, Maisy Beau, 3, who was more than happy to be part of the competition. Karen commented: "This year's Cheeky Monkies Challenge offered the young residents of Pembroke Dock something really special to be involved with. Not only did this event raise money for a very important cause, it also brought the community together for a great day of fun in the sun." With over 17 competition entrants, the event boasted an astounding 735 sandcastles built over the course of the competition. As well as having a hands-on approach at the event, Wilkinson donated £200 towards the cause which will be split evenly between Pembroke Dock Sea Scouts and the Great Ormond Street charity, Children with Leukaemia. Sponsorship donations are still rolling in, but the total raised from the day looks set to reach in excess of £500. Karen continued: "It was a great experience to be part of the event. Wilkinson is keen to be involved with community activities and look forward to supporting further events in Pembroke Dock."
