The organisers of this year's Tenby 10K are delighted to announce a new three year sponsor for the event - Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire. And among those pounding the roads around the town for the race on Sunday, July 29, will be the company's CEO Matthew Evans who is a keen marathon runner. Earlier this year, Matthew, along with Nicky Rees, of Tenby, and Stephen Rogers, of Llawhaden, competed an epic challenge of three marathons in three days, raising £5,400 for the Gareth Scotcher Trust Fund for Motor Neurone Disease. Although Matthew hasn't been running for the last seven months, he is now back training in preparation for the Tenby race. Nicky, Steve and Chris 'Niffy' Brace have been training hard for the past few months and have just announced they will be going out there to break the course record, although it seems 'Niffy' will be the man to watch after returning from altitude training in the Andes! July's event is being organised by TROTs, St. Clears, and the day begins with a junior fun run at The Clicketts at 10 am. It is open to children aged between eight and 15. "There will be different distances for different age groups and all finishers will get a medal," said one of the organisers, Ann Rowell. The 10K itself will start at 11 am from Tenby Leisure Centre. There will be categories for men, ladies, club teams and business teams and all finishers will receive a medal and a t-shirt, courtesy of Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire. Said Matthew: "Events like these are crucial in a community like Tenby. It also attracts over 200 runners that may not have visited the area otherwise. We have recently reviewed a lot of our sponsorship packages, but TROTS are a really professional outfit and hopefully together, we can make this year a record year for the event and raise serious money for local and national charities." "It is said that Mike Evans and Doug Waters, of the Buccanneer, are favourites for the local business trophy, but we are hoping our Kenyan exchange programme will pay dividends and we able to mount a challenge, although this is Doug's favoured distance," added Matthew. From Tenby Leisure Centre, the runners will head out onto Marsh Road, turning right into Clicketts Lane, then along Heywood Lane, The Green, Marsh Road and out along Penally by-pass to the camp. They will then turn and head back to Tenby through Penally village turning left into Clicketts Lane for another circuit along Heywood Lane, The Green and Marsh Road, finishing at the leisure centre. There will be showers and changing facilities at the leisure centre and ample parking. The men's course record is held by Mark Roberts from Swansea Harries who completed the course in 2003 in 32 minutes 13 seconds, while the ladies' is held by Rhiannon Ace, of Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club, who made it round the course in 2005 in 37 minutes 53 seconds. But will there be any entrants this year to beat them? Entry forms are available from Coastal Cottages, Tenby office in Deer Park, and from members of the TROTs Running Club or by downloading them from the website http://www.trots.org.uk/tenby10k.html">www.trots.org.uk/tenby10k.html. All the information about the event is on the website. Alternatively, telephone Ann on (01834) 842345. "We are absolutely delighted to have Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire as our sponsor this year and thank Matthew and Sophie Evans for their backing," said Ann. "We would also like to thank Tenby Leisure Centre for all their kind support and help. Without Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire and Tenby Leisure Centre the event would not be possible. "Tenby 10K always attracts a large crowd of runners and we are hoping that this year will be no exception."
