A new site has been found for Tenby library.
Pembrokeshire County Council's cabinet decided at a meeting on Monday to relocate the library to the proposed new English and Welsh primary schools site on Heywood's Lane.
The decision follows extensive consultation with library users in the town.
"Unfortunately, the size of the current library building limits our ability to provide a full range of library services, which means that keeping the library in its current location is not a viable option," said Clr. Elwyn Morse, cabinet member for cultural services.
"Developing the new library will give us the opportunity to increase the range of stock and services we can provide for the community as well as give us the space to organise activities for very young children," he said.
"The proposed new school site will also give us the opportunity to develop school and public library services on one site benefitting both pupil users and the public."
Cabinet approved a review of Tenby's library service in March and since then the county council has been consulting users over the move.
As a result of this exercise, an earlier suggestion to move the library to the leisure centre site has now been discounted.
Clr. Jamie Adams, leader of the council, told fellow cabinet members that the consultation was a clear example of the extensive work that had been undertaken to find the best solution for library users in Tenby.
