An exhibition of Robert Lawton's paintings goes on show today (Friday) at the Queen's Hall, Narberth.

Robert, from Narberth, went from Carmarthen College of Art to Edinburgh School of Art, where he won the 'Student of the Year Award' in 2001 and went on to win a scholarship to Rome.

He concentrated on beautiful tonal paintings, focusing on a delicate flower, or studying the subtle tones of a still life in white.

Robert has been called the 'Welsh Morandi' because of his gentle and simple compositions. Morandi, the Italian artist, studied form and tonal qualities in simple compositions such as a group of stone jars and bottles and achieved beautiful contemplative paintings that have won a place in modern art history.

Robert Lawton has rejected popular modern abstract art and concentrated on the portrayal of simplicity and quiet beauty of everyday objects.

Visit the exhibition at the Queen's Hall Gallery and enjoy the purity and the skill of Robert's work and appreciate the atmosphere of peace and contemplation.

The opening is at 7.30 pm today and the exhibition runs until March 6.

The gallery is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am - 5 pm and on Wednesdays and Thursdays when the gallery is not in use.
