Saundersfoot Festivities, organisers of the village's New Year's Day Swim, are this week proud to unveil their new main sponsor for their 'Silver Swim', as Powells Cottage Holidays. Powells have been on board for some time now. However, this year, they have increased their support and will take pride of place on the brand new 25th anniversary rugby shirt.
The shirts have become a trademark within the village on New Year's Day and this year the demand for the shirt has already exceeded expectation.
Martyn Williams, chairman of Saundersfoot Festivities, said: "The design of this year's shirt has been carefully considered, ensuring that it includes the colours silver, to celebrate the 25th anniversary, and pink, which represents our continued commitment to raise money for breast cancer."
Added Christian Done, business development director at Powells Cottage Holidays: "Having been brought up in Saundersfoot, I have seen the swim go from strength to strength and realise how important it is for the village. I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to increase our support for the 25th anniversary 'Silver Swim'.
The rugby shirts are made by the rugby firm Kooga and have been produced by Westcoast, Milford Haven. They have all the logos of the swims 2009 sponsors, namely Powells Cottage Holidays, Oakwood, Silcox Coaches, Pembrokeshire Financial Services, FBM Estate Agents, Neil Finlay Cars and Sands Nightclub.
The 2009 swim will be celebrating its 25th year. During that time the swim has raised over £200,000 for local and national charities. Last year alone raised £28,000.
