This summer, wildlife expert and Springwatch presenter Iolo Williams fronts a new four-part series on Pembrokeshire’s wildlife.

Iolo’s Pembrokeshire: The Wild West will see Iolo take viewers on a personal guided tour through this south-west corner of Wales, famous for its rugged coastline, off-shore islands, and ancient history. But within its borders are other locations with great wildlife waiting to be discovered.

Exploring these lesser-known attractions and uncovering an array of wildlife, Iolo will showcase the many delights of the area from the green tiger beetles on St. David’s Head and hunting kestrels at Ceibwr Bay to nesting kingfishers along the Eastern Cleddau river.

Iolo said: “In this series, my role is more of an interpreter to the people at home, interpreting what’s going on, on camera. It feels more intimate and personal so I hope that comes across and people enjoy it. I also hope that people see parts of Pembrokeshire that makes them think, the first opportunity I get, I’m going to Pembrokeshire and I’m going to that very place to look for that very thing.”

“This series is a real treat”, added BBC commissioning editor, Christina Macaulay. “It’s like having Iolo as your own personal wildlife guide. I hope it will inspire people heading for their staycation holidays. And of course it is great armchair viewing too for those not lucky enough to be heading for Pembrokeshire this summer.”

The series was commissioned by BBC Wales, and produced by Aden Productions.

Iolo’s Pembrokeshire: The Wild West airs on July 5 on BBC One Wales at 7.30 pm.

It will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
