Following months of speculation, the location for Narberth's new primary school has at last officially been announced this week.

After investigations at four places in the town, it has been decided that the new facility will be built on an 80-acre site to the north of Jesse Road, alongside the police houses.

The news was broken to a meeting of the Narberth CP School parent teacher association and governors on Tuesday evening, the same time the town's county councillor, David Watkins, informed members of the town council.

Pembrokeshire County Council plans to apply for planning permission for the school later this month and construction work is expected to begin early in the new financial year, with completion in 2005.

"This is good news for the town and long overdue," said Clr. Watkins, who pointed out that the site would also be large enough to to incorporate parking.
