Oakwood theme park this week unveiled the name of their eagerly-awaited new ride for 2006. Managing director, Paddy McNamara announced that the new roller coaster will be called Speed. "We have called our new roller coaster Speed because we feel it best captures the essence of the ride. Its amazing vertical lift and beyond vertical drop propels it to speeds of 95kph, making it by far the fastest ride at Oakwood. Also, the open design of the cars means you are quite exposed to the elements, so when you speed through all the fantastic twists, turns and loops, you really will feel the wind rushing through your hair." The new roller coaster will be Oakwood's fastest ride yet and a first of its kind in the UK because of its unique beyond-vertical drop. For an exhilarating 90 seconds the new roller coaster will take people on the ride of their life. Four eight-seater cars will travel through a series of vertical and horizontal loops, a 360 degree barrel roll and an awe-inspiring beyond-vertical drop at speeds of up to 95 kilometres per hour. Oakwood are certain that Speed will provide fantastic thrills because the ride has been designed to pack as much fun as possible into a minute and a half. Construction is already underway and the new roller coaster will be ready to ride when Oakwood re- opens in April 2006.
