Pembrokeshire is getting greener thanks to a brand new joint venture formed by Milford Haven Port and The Green Electrician Limited, which will install renewable energy technologies in homes and businesses throughout South Wales from its Pembrokeshire base.

The new venture - The Green Electrician South Wales - anticipates creating seven new jobs by the end of the year. One of its first tasks has been to install over £1.25 million of photovoltaic (PV) panels on port, and port-tenant buildings across Milford Docks, Pembroke Port and Cedar Court in Milford Haven; this will reduce the port's carbon emissions to the equivalent of taking over 57,000 cars off the road.

The Green Electrician is one of the most experienced and highly regarded solar PV installers in the UK and supplies renewable and energy efficiency technologies throughout North Wales, North West and Midlands of England. It will bring its expertise, contacts and equipment to the joint venture so that the business can deliver the best and most cost effective energy management service in South Wales.

Commenting on the formation of The Green Electrician South Wales, Alec Don, chief executive of Milford Haven Port, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to extend the reach of renewable energy in South Wales. The positive effect will be immediate with the creation of new jobs for the region and the installation of solar panels on our buildings, which will significantly reduce our own carbon footprint.

"While the recent announcement about changes to the Feed in Tariff is expected to reduce demand in the short term, installation of solar PV panels will continue to be an attractive investment for many, with a high degree of inflation protection built-in. This will particularly prove to be the case as technology improves and costs reduce, and traditional energy prices rise."

Mr. Don added that renewable energy was established, essential and growing, and as the UK's energy port, Milford Haven Port was committed to establishing a substantial presence in all parts of the renewable energy industry.

"We are also actively pursuing opportunities to be involved in the wind, hydro and biomass sectors of the renewable energy economy," he said

Rupert Higgin, of The Green Electrician, said: "We are very excited to establish The Green Electrician in South Wales as it builds on the strong base we have created in the north of the country where more than one third of our business is generated. Milford Haven Port is an ideal partner for the business as it is intrinsically linked with energy and the initial contract gives a great platform to extend the benefits of renewable energy across the region."
