Lovely autumn weather again greeted the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions Club annual sponsored horse-ride recently at Lydstep point-to-point course. Such is the growing popularity of this event that the club wish to hold it on a twice-yearly basis to satisfy demand. An excellent turnout of 53 riders took part and enjoyed a great afternoon's riding over the varied 10-mile course between Lydstep, Penally and Manorbier parishes. Prior to setting off on their ride, both riders and their mounts were judged for best turned-out combinations in both pony and horse classes, as well as highest sponsored entrants. This is always a difficult task for the judges with such a high standard of entrants. Special thanks must go to Raynet Radio Club and Tenby ATC cadets for the marshalling of the course; Phil Deacon of St. John Ambulance; and Fiona Griffiths and Rose and Henry Davies for the judging on the day. A very big thank you to all the local farmers for allowing the club to use their land for this event; without them, none of this would be able to take place. Vice-president Miguel Gonzalez, who presented the trophies on the day, offered sincere thanks to all those who took part in the ride, from Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions Club members and and hoped to see everyone again next year. "We will keep you all informed of further developments and fixture," he said. "This has been yet another record year for sponsorship at this event and the riders have put in a tremendous effort. Thank you all." Results were as follows: Best turned out horse and rider was Jess Frearson on 'Thistle'. Best runner-up horse and rider was Lindsay Watts, who also took the prize for best sponsored horse and rider for the second year running, riding on 'Lucky Beggar' - very well done. Best turned out pony and rider was Charlotte Evans on 'Morse', who also won the runner-up in the sponsored category pony and rider - well done Charlotte, please come again next year. Taryn Williams won best sponsored pony and rider and also won runner-up best pony and rider on 'Bertie Basset.' Twice around the course trophy was taken by a smiling Rowenna Sinclair on mounts 'Nova' and 'Jenn.' Runner-up for sponsored horse and rider was Lynn Davies from Narberth on 'Bailey', who has yet to collect her trophy.
