The first partnership meeting for the Linking Natural Science Collections in Wales project took place at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery last Thursday.
The project is reviewing collections in 20 museums across Wales, including Tenby Museum, with the help of specialist curators from Amguedffa Cymru - National Museum Wales (AC-NMW) and is a partnership, funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Collections Fund, between AC-NMW, CyMAL and the Federation of Museums and Art Galleries of Wales.
The project will build on the distributed national collection programme described in the Welsh Museums Strategy and establish a network of natural science collections across Wales.
Project manager Christian Baars led the day where museum workers from Swansea, Aberystwyth, Newport, Brecon and Tenby discussed the ways that natural science collections can be used in museums. A brainstorming session resulted in several innovative ideas.
Christian Baars also opened the new display at the museum, Science Classes, based around the museum's natural science collections of artefacts and books, on Saturday. This display runs until March 23.
