Town councillor Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers has been installed as new Mayor of Narberth. Thirty-nine-year-old Clr. Mrs. Rogers, who has been Deputy Mayor for the last 12 months, received the chain of office from outgoing Mayor, Clr. Eric Feetham, at the town council's annual general meeting on Tuesday night. Clr. Feetham, who has held the position on a record six occasions, proposed Clr. Mrs. Rogers and was seconded by Clr. Colin Williams. The nomination was unanimously agreed. But before Clr. Feetham stood down, he thanked everyone who had helped him during his 'unexpected' year in office, particularly the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Rogers, together with Clrs. Sue Rees and Denise Rigby for their work with Civic Week, his wife and Mayoress, Doris, the clerk, Mrs. Caroline Coaker, and his fellow councillors. In response, Clr. Williams thanked Clr. Feetham on behalf of his colleagues and people of the town for his 'outstanding' work during his time in office. After donning the scarlet robes of office, Clr. Mrs. Rogers's first job was to elect a Deputy Mayor. She proposed Clr. Ms. Suzanne Radford Smith and Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees seconded her. All agreed. The new Mayor then went on to appoint Clr. Mrs. Denise Rigby as her Mayoress, before adding her own thanks to Clr. Feetham. "I was not sure how I could thank Clr. Feetham for stepping in at a moment's notice last year, to say thank you does not seem enough, but I will say it anyway, thank you," said Clr. Mrs. Rogers, who is also chairman of the town's Civic Week. "Now, after taking over, I could not have had a better teacher for the position of Mayor than the 'father' of the council, as we call him. Believe it or not, next year, Clr. Feetham will have served 40 years as a councillor. "Then I thought, how I could thank Eric? Only by being the best Mayor I could be and by this way show how grateful I am for his help and guidance this last 12 months. "During my year of office, I hope to run smooth and efficient meetings that find the results we all work so hard to get, and meetings that let us get home at a decent hour. I hope with council's help this will be possible." County Councillor Elwyn Morse congratulated Clr. Mrs. Rogers, Clr. Ms. Radford Smith and Clr. Mrs. Rigby on their appointments on behalf of Pembrokeshire County Council and wished them a successful year. Good wishes were also sent from Clr. David Norcross, who was not present at the meeting. Born and brought up in Narberth, Clr. Mrs. Rogers, of Narberth Bridge, is following in the footsteps of her father, Don Morgan, who was Mayor in 1984. Clr. Mrs. Rogers works at Next Door Florist. She is married to Tony and they have two daughters, Jemma and Abby.
