Clr. Suzanne Radford-Smith was officially installed as Mayor of Narberth at the town council's annual general meeting on Tuesday. The town's 'elder statesman', and five times former Mayor himself, Clr. Eric Feetham formally proposed that Clr. Radford-Smith don the scarlet robes of office for 2008-9. The councillors present agreed unanimously that the nomination for Mayor and that of her Deputy, Clr. Ruth Platt, be accepted. Outgoing Mayor, Clr. Elizabeth Rogers, made a short speech in which she thanked the council for the help and assistance given her during the previous year, and described how honoured she had been to represent the town. Clr. Rogers welcomed Clr. Radford-Smith as the new first citizen, before the two left the council chamber for the robing ceremony. In her first speech as Mayor, Clr. Radford-Smith, last year's Deputy Mayor, officially introduced her aunt, Pauline Lynch, as Mayoress. She then went on to thank the outgoing Mayor for her support and congratulated Clr. Platt on her appointment. The Mayor continued by congratulating the newly- elected council and thanking the unsuccessful candidates who had stood at the recent election, Jimmy Price and Raymond Benson, for their interest in the town, and offered her commiserations to Susie Lincoln who had lost her seat. Congratulations were also offered to the re-elected County Councillor Elwyn Morse, representing the Narberth Rural ward and the unopposed Narberth Urban County Councillor, Wynne Evans, who was also re-elected to the town council. Clr. Radford-Smith has been a familiar face on the town council for the last few years. She is a resident of Clunderwen and works at Narberth's Bloomfield Centre. Clr. Radford-Smith runs the Narberth community website, the Chamber of Trade website and the Bloomfield website, while she is also press officer for Civic Week and treasurer for the Narberth Future Forum. In addition, she's a volunteer at the Bus Stop youth project and is in charge of ticket sales for Celtic Blue Rock Community Arts Festival.
